Is anyone having success doing this?

I just bought a TV Tuner USB stick, but the program that came with the device is terrible. It runs slow, constantly crashes, and despite me changing all the settings, will only record mp3s of the shows I want rather than the actual video.

Does anyone have any software they can recommend? Any tips for getting better signal inside my rental (can't really install an outdoor antenna)?

Anyone figured out a way to do this from their Cox HD box?

I'm pretty sure the digital output is encrypted to stop you doing just that.

Also trying to break the encryption is a federal offense I think

It can be done. You will have to buy this device (or something similar if they exist): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116030&Tpk=hauppage

I just use Windows Media Center, works just like a DVR.
