Well I guess it's time to predict our season record for this year. I want to be optimistic, but I just don't see us being that good. Arizona finishes the season 3-13.

Too early to predict a record......but I'd say we are still a sure bet at 5 wins........we aren't worse than last year.

<p>You say you want to be optimistic and then you say the Cards are only going to win 3 games??? Have you checked the schedule for the upcoming season? Since the Cards won 5 games last year and had a tough schedule, what part of the offense and defense do you think is so much worse than last year?

3-13 optimistic? Nah, now Tango, he's optimistic. Within 2 minutes of Calvin Pace being picked, he was defending the pick in the chat room while the rest of us, uhm, colorfully showed our displeasure with the pick. In hindsight, Tango, I agree with you, I think Pace is a good player and will buy his jersey this year to show support.

I think the cards will finish where I think the cards will finish every year... 7-10 wins, maybe in the playoffs with a late push. Their schedule this year is the weakest in the league (there have been articles written about it) and I see them coming together as a unit. Remember, last year this team started off 4-2 and had a staunch defense before running into a buzzsaw of a team in San Francisco. Imagine what good it will do to have a QB that can get the ball IN THE VICINITY of the receiver now. I think they can easily add 4-5 wins to their record over what they did last year, if they stay healthy and the wheels don't come off.

The real question, I think isn't so much the team but the defense. McGinnis's defense has never really been successful in the 7 or 8 years he's been here. He's a great motivator, and I'm proud he's our head coach, but damn it's time for the defense to step up already.

Mr. Negative says

anything less than 7 wins will be very disappointing.

The question is...will I be disappointed?

I think we are better than last season..how much so depends whe we sign between now an training camp and how many injuries we have...By default we are better due to:

1. we lost more guys to injuries than any other team except the bears (I think) - and I have to assume some of the guys will contribute more this season.
2. yea..we lost boston (biggest talent loss) - but he had like 64 catches last season due to injuries - so in theory if we get a decent receiver to step up and play the entire season - we will improve at receiver (not in talent - but due to production due to all of injuries we had least year). same concept for offensive line.
3. in my opinion we still upgraded at qb - if for no other reason than we should have less turnovers..wins and losses sometimes are decided on giveaways takeaways...and we should have improved.

I think we stand at a 6 - 8 win team..may improve more is young players step up, rookies contribute and we can sign a good dtackle and dback for depth after june 1st..

6 - 10 is my prediction, as of now. Its still a little early, we have to see if they do get active after June 1st and get us veteran depth(or even starters) at positions of need.

4-12 - Can't depend on mid round draft picks to upgrade the Defense - entire D rests on hope that Wendell Bryant is a player and DJ is player - since I have seen no reason to believe Joe Greene can make them such - and I do not think Pace is an IMPACT D-lineman - so our DB's, which could be good with an adeauqte line will be playing pass defense for seven seconds before getting torched. Oh yeah and is Levar Fisher really going to be the player we think he's going to be? Too many questions on the defense.

On offense - we basically have a ton of receivers with 9 games under their belts, an old RB who's last good season was thre years ago, no center and Anthony Clement who can't stay healthy. Jeff Blake is an average QB, throwing to unknown and unproven recievers.

Okay based on all that - based on the fact that the Rams, Niners and Seahags are all better than us and have better head coaches (well, the Niners might not - but at least Erickson's Seabags tams were always competitive and would have made the playoffs if the refs hadn't thought Vinnie's helmet was a football) - I will have to see this team actaully be better on the field in order to believe it. Unfotunately I see 4-12, but I hope to be wrong!

I won't predict anything until the week leading up to the season opening game but if they don't win at least 7 games, say goodbye to Mac and the rest of the coaches

And most of all....The puppet who is building this team. The coaches can only do so much. (except for Greene. They should drop him now...)

Graves is engineering this team. If it tanks then it is a direct reflection on him. He is the one pulling the trigger. He is the one making the decisions. The buck stops with him.

But I will wait until June 1st to judge. I have an open mind. I hope I do not hear..."Wait until the season starts" or "Wait until half way through the season" or "Wait till next year". All of those statements, or anything similar, to me would be an admission of failure on this teams direction. (and none of this subjective..."We addressed the under-belly of this team" stuff).

JMO. Counting down.

we go 5-11 (hmm, vaguely familiar) with the upside of not winning a game all season.

If we get lucky, 3-13. The offseason moves we've made, should provide the desired result of earning the #1 overall draft pick next year.

We're not very lucky, so 2-14.

Just send me the money now then. Sounds like I can twist the bet to favor myself no matter what! :D

Don't worry, ten years later and the Jagermiester is hardly affecting me any longer. You'll recover.
