Did anyone see this over the weekend? I happened to come across it flipping channels but missed everything except the last 10 minutes. It covered a lot of the history of the Cards but my tivo didn't catch it because it had "Chicago Cardinals" in the description. I have my tivo watching for "arizona cardinals" so I don't get a bunch of St Louis baseball games. Looked to be a good watch, but it didn't show another airing in my directv guide.

Watched some of it, but got distracted and missed the rest. Very angry with myself, as when is the next time the Cards will have their own special on NFL Network?

I saw it. I was disappointed.

It stitched together 7 or 8 previously aired pieces on (a) Dierdorf/Dobler, (b) Larry Wilson, (c) John David Crow, (d) Aeneas Williams, (e) Dave Meggysey and (f) Jackie Smith - plus a tiny segment on Ollie Matson being traded away for 9 "garbage players" and two All Pros. And one of those Football Follies pieces on "those wonderful fumbling, bumbling Cardinals."

(Note - Two of the five players ended their careers with other teams, Meggysey wrote a readable but not particularly flattering book on the Cardinals and the NFL. And Dierdorf til recently hadn't been a particularly vocal supporter of the Cardinals as an on-air personality). While each Cardinal alum deserved his place in the spotlight, a lot about the Cardinal franchise was omitted.

As Cardinal fans, ask yourselves about some of the other things you would have liked to have had included in "Cardinals' History" reel. Off the top of my head, here's a bunch:

- Air Coryell.

- Roy Green and Pat Tilley

- The Unstoppable Larry Centers

- The Dream Backfield (Trippi, Angsmann, Harder and Christman)

- OJ Anderson's Rookie Season

- Cardinal RB's - Trippi, Roland, Crow (oops! I almost forgot him), Anderson, Stump

- The Defensive Impact of the late Chuck Drulis

- Great Cardinal Corners (Night Train, Abe Woodson, Roger Wehrli, Aeneas)

I realize there weren't a huge number of success stories to crow about, but there are enough to make a really good team highlight reel. (That NFL Network chose to select the Cards-Bears debacle as a "2007 classic game" is fair enough game, but it really would be nice to also include one of the exciting games ending in a Cardinal win).

It has always ticked me off that NFL Films has ignored one of the greatest successes in Cardinal history, the 1970 team's 3 successive shutouts ending with the 38-0 Monday night win over Dallas.

I know that two of those shutouts were against AFL teams Boston and Houston but to beat eventual SuperBowl participant Dallas and be responsible for Don Merideth's signature "turn out the lights" should merit more recognition. In addition two future HOFers, Wilson and Werhli were on that Cardinal team.

I doubt that you can find a more dominant three game stretch by any NFL team in the SuperBowl era than the Cards winning 3 games by the combined score of 113-0.

Duck - One of the juiciest sidebars to that win was the "disappearance" of Howard Cosell for the entire second half of the contest.

Much in the same manner in which he used to over-hype Muhammed Ali, Cosell did likewise for America's Team and, as legend had it, was known to take a nip or two during the course of a game. The more the Cowboy's fell behind, the more Howard imbibed; finally tossing his cookies at halftime and in no condition to continue.

It was left to either Dandy Don or The Giff (I don't remember which) to tell the MNF television audience: "Howard's feeling a bit under the weather and won't be with us for the 2nd half of the game..."

For those of us, weary of the overhyping of Dallas (& the underhyping of the Cards) it was a beautiful thing.

I think the "Q" has made this list already.

And Larry Wilson playing a game with cast on both arms and making an interception. And Sonny Randall. And Dr. Charlie Johnson. And? I think we had the first 300 lb lineman in pro football? And the Cardinals and Bears squaring off at Wrigley Field. And Jackie Smith the new prototype tight end who could run like a wideout.

Can't forget The Jim Otis and Terry Metcalf show which anchored the Air Coryell show. Can't forget Chuck Latourette, the Punter and punt returner. Can't forget Dave Williams , WR, Goal Tender, and back-up KO kicker. Can't forget Jim Bakken, DB turned Kicker.

I thought I knew right where to look for it--the middle of the Bears' '85 season...but alas, you're correct.

The Bears only had a stretch of 104-3 over three games.

Even the 2000 Ravens can't get there.

The Cards only gave up 6 points in the next game against the Chiefs. 4 games, 6 points allowed. Now that's a defense.

Cards also beat the Cowboys earlier in the season 20-7. I'll also bet it's hard to find a team that beat one of the two Super Bowl participants by the combined score of 58-7 during the regular season.

Just for everyone information. The NFL Network will be showing the Cardinals Minni Camps Sunday at 7 p.m. central time. So i think that will be 5 p.m. Arizona time. For listing check out the NFL network.
