Arians says Deone Bucannon had ankle surgery recently. Will be questionable for season opener. Reddick is the starter at this point.

BA said Deone Bucannon had ankle surgery due to a "lingering" injury. He said if everything goes well, he should be okay for season opener.

Compare Kent's and BA's tweets. Someone might want to ask Kent why the discrepancy?

If he is sidelined with a hopefully return of season opener, that means reddick is the starter in reps until BUC is healthy.

Bucannon surgery takes position with depth & undercuts it. Rookie Hasson Reddick is your starter now - for those wanting top pick to play.

It seems like every year we have a situation like this where a player tries to let an injury heal during the offseason & then the Cardinals staff checks it out & determines that it isn't healing properly & surgery is needed. At least this time it's happening early enough that Bucannon might not miss any games, but losing out on training camp & pre-season is going to set him back.

Hopefully, Reddick runs away with the starting job & Bucannon can be worked back in slowly until he gets up to game speed.

Put Bucannon on the PUP list and re-sign Sio Moore to compete with Reddick. Just a thought. Moore played very well in Bucannon's absence the last couple of games. Best was his tackling of Russell Wilson in Wilson's read option. Stayed home, didn't over-commit. Finished the tackles with authority.

Well, double edged sword here. I was worried about Reddick getting enough reps coming into a new position. But now we've lost a lot of versatility, and Buc will be stuck shaking a lot of rust off for the first month of the season. Is Reddick really ready for primetime coming from Temple? I too agree that Sio Moore should be brought back.

I'm still not for a full time move to SS for Buc. He's settled in where he is, IMO.

Signing Sio Moore makes a lot of sense right now

No need to panic.

We have Alani Fua back. As I recall BASK were very high on him. Id be fine with him as a primary backup.

It's mind boggling. I never understand why they do this. If they know it needs to be repaired then get it done and give yourself as much time as possible to recover before the season starts.
They don't know it needs to be repaired. Once that cut gets made, you're never the same again.

for the big picture this is great for our defense. HR gets reps and experience right away which can only help...and as long as he does not completely flop we have the option of bringing DB back slow so we can reduce the risk of re-injury.
because realistically if HR is playing well at all there is no way BA lets him take all the starter reps through pre-season then starts Buc on day 1 right?...maybe if he is doing well give Buc 10-15 plays in week 2 and build from there.

But I agree with most of you guys....take some of that Dwash money and re-sign sio moore

But HR isn't the same exact player DB is. There's some versatility we're losing out of our $LB with HR probably playing a more traditional linebacker role. HR is more likely to come up to the line of scrimmage than he is drop back into coverage as much as Deone, just because of the size difference.

Agreed with you though - Deone doesn't come back and just completely take over for HR in week one unless HR has looked really lost.
