An important series against the Reds starts tonight, the Diamondbacks have to start feeling a sense of urgency if they want to make a move in the West. Russ Ortiz pitches in the first game.

Not that important if they let Ortiz do what he did tonight. Go away fast Ortiz. Go away and don't come back.

Why should Russ go anywhere? He still has over $27 million in checks to collect.

I wonder how Ortiz would feel about a move to the pen? :thud:

CONOR WALKS IN A RUN!! I KNEW he'd be the guy to do it! I will be paying the DBacks Charities my wager, and ecstatic to do it in Conor's name.

Looks like Terrero also has something to prove. Good for him.

But Ortiz is out in the third, and Melvin thinks Bruney can keep things under control? Hah!

Mr Ortiz - 2.2 IP, 6 ER
Mr Bruney - 0.2 IP, 6 ER
Mr Cormier - 2.2 IP, 5 ER

Messrs Aquino & Lyon, 2 IP, 0 ER. :notworthy

Personally, I'm hoping for a bag of field chalk & some sunflower seeds in trade for Ortiz; maybe an extended stint in the minors can pull Bruney & Cormier out of the depths of pitching hell!! No matter what, the entire coaching staff might want to start dusting off their resumes - that is, if the FO has any f-ing clue at all!!!

The Padres beat ATL tonight....four games back of San Diego now.

At this point, we'd be LUCKY to get that for Russ. Frankly, at this point Arizona's only hope of trading him would be giving him the hell away.Adding to that, it'd probably have to be in a deal where the Diamondbacks would likely have to swallow a chunk of Ortiz's contract.

And how.. I think it's safe to say that unless this team improves in an immediate hurry, Melvin's SOL.

that is, if the FO has any f-ing clue at all!!!

I could be wrong here, but wasn't Gebhardt the genius who signed Mike Hampton and the late Darryl Kile to albatross sized contracts?

Nice to see Jackson walk in a run, probably the highlight of the game for the dbacks, even though honestly all four of those pitches were so far outside that anybody could have laid off of them.

But they wouldn't have. That's why it was a highlight. We are so much worse than other teams with bases loaded it's just weird. Have been for the last couple years. Our OPS is .300 lower than our opponents' in equal chances (110) this year.

Heh, I know that we havent been a good team in those situations, but I think those specific pitches were bad enough that any of our hitters would have laid off of them. It was nice that it happened to Jackson though.

Got back from the gym and saw the Diamondbacks were down 7-0. Now it's 7-4 in the 7th. Tony Clark had a big 2-run single and they said he has 3 hits for the game. I guess Halsey did not have a good game today.

Aquino gives up 2 runs and now it's 9-4. Frustration is setting in. Melvin gets tossed.

As I write this, Cintron hits a 2-run homer.

Conor took a lead-off walk to start that rally on a guy who'd only given up 5 BB thus far.

Brandon Lyons has looked horrible since he's been back. He just gave up a 3-run homer to Pena. It's now 12-6.
