Citing a well-placed team source, Chris Russell of ESPN 980 Washington reports the Redskins were "leaning toward" keeping Evan Royster over Ryan Torain before the preseason finale.

Russell concedes Royster's concussion could alter those plans. Torain also out-played Royster Thursday, showing obvious power whereas the rookie failed to get more than what was blocked. Torain could "get a turn as the starter at some point this season," according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano.

I had Torain on my fantasy last year and he tore it up. That is pretty much all I know about the guy though.

I always liked Ryan Torain as a RB coming out of ASU. He is a big physical runner with decent speed that can make his own hole. Before he suffered a tore ACL (see link below) I thought he would be a very good running back in the NFL. As I recall not many posters were impressed with him on this board in the draft as they had him only being successful in a zone blocking scheme. I didn't agree. Actually Torain used to run a lot more upright in college and reminds me somewhat of Beanie Wells in this regards.

I'd definitely take a look if available.

Injury prone and coming off wrist surgery.

There should be better options available after cuts are made.

Plus, one Sun Devil on offense is enough for my liking :D

Most of the beatwriters and talking heads here in DC figure him to be splitting carries to start the season and to fully grasp the starting role by week 3.

While I dont think Torain will be cut, only because Shanahan loves his running style, he would be a great pick up. Aside from his injury concerns, he's a shifty, powerful runner, and I personally think he's better than Wells. He doesn't fall down when a gust of wind hits him, like Wells, and he can make something out of nothing. He's also a decent receiver coming out of the backfield, so he certainly would be worth looking at if he is cut.
