I'm a weird duck and I know it, A flack aflack

But I want to see the preseason stay the same the regular season reduced and the playoffs expanded.
Aug Preseason
sept 1/4 season
oct 2/4 season
nov 3/4 season
dec 4/4 season

The quality of the play opening day will be reduced by a lesser preseason. Yet in the NFL every game counts more than other sports.

The regular season has 2 back systems as an example because the best players can't hold up, putting stars on the bench more and QB's on the training table.

The slight reduction of a 2nd bye week, each team having a bye in each half of the season would improve quailty of season long play, and % volume of plays with top stars on the field.

The playoffs are the largest draw in the world of sports. it would water it down but damn it many teams are in the playoffs with 4 games left. It is a single elimination tournement so 1 and done.

I would like to see every division winner play a wildcard team, the seeding is plenty of incentive, more cities, fans and premium events compared to reg ular season dogs in the last couple weeks.

So why not expand the the playoffs. to 50% of the 32 teams (16) or 50% of a 36 team NFL in an expansion.

I don't know the extra playoff teams hasn't hurt baseball. Other than having them play in poor weather for the sport.

This year Tampa 10-6, NYG 10-6, SD 9-7 and Jags at 8-8 would have been added.

The problem is getting the extra games on TV with 4 extra games the first week. There is room for one on Thursday and another on Monday and one on Saturday but who gets the short week and who the long? It's not like baseball or basketball where teams can play almost every day without too much ill effect.

Would be a logistical nightmare I'd think.

There is going to be 18 games, owners want it, I see it coming down to the money (duh) that the owners are trying to take back from the players while extending the season.

18 games is gonna happen, Owners try and act they are working with the Union by knocking down the first round rookie pay, but that was wanted by both sides.

50% of the teams making the playoffs would be something like the NHL.
So the teams won't have to be up for it every week but win just enough games than the lower 50%

I prefer removing 2 pre season games and add them to the regular season. Mentioning the lower quality of games and execution of the opening week is not an issue. It just means the game is worth even more and teams should try their best to prepare and win instead of just playing the 3 or 4th stringers.

I would like to see a 20 game schedule with 2, maybe even 3 bye weeks. Two bye weeks during the season, one before the playoffs.....keep playoffs the same....

As it is you have the NFL forcing cities to build the most expensive buildings they even do build for a sport where they only have 8 guaranteed legitimate contests per year. Don't even mention preseason, where the building is half full with people bitterly hanging on before real football starts. So now maybe, there would only be six guaranteed games. That would be good.

ok

I still think the Playoffs are the premium NFL product next to the SB. and it wouldn't be 50% with any kind of expansion.

I think maybe 3 preseason games and an extra bye, 1 in each half of the season and expanded playoffs is better than 18 reg games and 2 preseason.

We have no place for development of young players in game time? Yea some may trhink it doesn't matter opening day, but we are seeing some sloppy football opening days now!

Hell the refs aint even ready with rule changes opening day now.

Yeah, but the pre-season isn't really developing the rookies. Look at Stephen Williams last year. He was dominating in pre-season against vanilla packages and 3/4 speed from the regulars.

Then he goes into regular season situations and he dissapears. Roberts and Komar steped it up, during the season, but Williams wasn't heard from again.

I like the idea of 18 games and teams getting two bye weeks in each half of the season. Right now teams that get byes in the 2nd halfs of the season enjoy a slight edge to heal up and gear up for the dog fights for a final playoff push.

Teams can have 2 pre-season games along with some full contact scrimmages (2) with some regional teams (SD & Oak or Den) along with our own full contact scrimmage at the beginning of TC.

That will give the coaches plenty of time to evaluate the younger guys, and the fans won't get jipped out of paying full price for two pre-season games that you get to see the starters for 1 quarter or less, as is the case now.

Last 2/3 pre-seasons we've had to pay full price tickets on the 1st and 4th pre-season games, which REALLY sucked.

Keep playoff format the same. Teams need to earn their way in. And it's competitive. GB was the 6th seed this year. That makes competitive playoffs. The top teams during the season deserve their bye week in the playoffs.

If even two regular season games are added I think an additional bye week is necessary.

However, if you add a third bye week prior to the start of the playoffs, yet "keep the playoffs the same", the #1 and #2 seeds in each conference would be idle for two weeks; meaning three weeks from their last regular season game until their first playoff game. That's too long of a break prior to playoffs; it would be a disadvantage to the top seeds.

The top seeds get a regular work week but no bye. There is still a small advantage that can be applied to the day the top seeds play the bottom seeds on saturday followed by the next week Sunday game.

I agree with you. It would start to be like the stupid BCS where the Championship game is played more than a month after each teams last game.

When I was a kid it was 4 preseason games, 14 reg season games and the playoffs.
Stars played every game and had something left for the playoffs.

These guys are bigger, faster, smarter. But Jim Brown wouldn't hold up to a 26 week 24 game stretch his whole career.

If your gonna reduce something reduce the regular season, to improve the quality at the expense of quanity.

put some incentives in the preseason, like baseballs all star game or something.
preseason as tie breaker or something.

I just know that each game meant more in a 12 and 14 game season than it does in a 16 game season.

But single elimination playoff are very important every moment. That is the rality show that rocks, win or go home you

I want to see 2 preseason and 18 regular season games, we have to pay full price for that 4th preseason game and we see a game where the starters mostly rest and we have to pay our hard earned dollars for a glorified scrimmage that is nowhere close to worth it. The playoffs are fine they way they are.
