Hale: Addison Reed out for now as Diamondbacks closer
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
Right-hander Addison Reed has both Diamondbacks saves this season. Who will get the third is anybody's guess.

Chip Hale has bounced Reed from the closer role, though he anticipates reinstating him once he finds his groove, per azcentral.com. He added that veteran submariner Brad Ziegler could be an option unless he is needed earlier in a game, which indicates that the current plan is closer-by-committee.

Reed has struggled throughout the year. He has allowed eight runs on 15 hits in 10 innings pitched. The last straw was Wednesday, when he blew a save by giving up four runs on three hits in one inning against Washington.

I love to see that we've got a manager that is willing to make changes sooner than later when needed. There's been too much "the system works" in AZ sports in past years.

I was worried about this. It sucks to blow a game when the division leader loses. Too much talent that ain't making the big bucks to justify keeping the overpaid dog in the hunt. We're not winning the pennant this year, bring up the young bucks and let's see what we have.

Glad there are examining the options instead of being stubborn

I like that Chip waited a day or two to remove Reed as closer.

Decisive but considerate.

There was no doubt that the grand slam was the last straw.

And that he left Reed in consideration for the future. 'No harm inferring that he could be in the running if he works his way back.

Also that he'll use Ziegler as closer, but not name him right away. That's a good move.
