Now maybe Calvin Johnson will get a few thrown his way.

Ball ineligible for Gator Bowl
QB's career ends after fall academic problems

Reggie Ball's passing problems apparently weren't limited to the football field.

Georgia Tech's struggling quarterback is academically ineligible to play in the Gator Bowl, coach Chan Gailey said Wednesday night.

Sophomore Taylor Bennett will start against No. 13 West Virginia in the New Year's Day game, Gailey said.

Ball's academic problems forced the Yellow Jackets to make the quarterback change many fans had been calling for after Ball, a senior from Stone Mountain, completed just 15 of 51 passes with four interceptions and no touchdown passes in losses to Georgia and Wake Forest.

Ball started 49 games, more than any other quarterback in Tech history, and he won 29, two shy of Shawn Jones' school record.

But he completed fewer than half his passes, including a career-worst 44.4 percent this season.

Ball throws him plenty of balls, the problem is none of them stay in the stadium. Ball couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, makes Johnsons accomplishments even more incredible
