According to a variety of local and national media sources, these are the free agents the Suns are interested in. Here's how I see it, in order of importance:
1. Mehmet Okur: A 6-11 PF/C, Okur has the best set of skills and the interest to play for the Suns. He's not the defensive presence they'd hope for, but he would fills a big need in general. A nice developing player.
2. Mark Blount: Probably the Suns backup plan if Okur stays with the Pistons. He's a true 7-0 and a hard worker with decent mobility. What he's not is polished. If the Suns went this direction, it will probably be because they're looking to add another player to their roster.
3 - 5: Eric Williams, Brian Cardinal and guard Derek Fisher: I don't understand the interest in Cardinal. He is essentially a slower Casey Jacobsen. Don't understand the interest in Fisher, either, since he wouldn't bring much and would cost a lot to sit on the bench at a position that's deep if not overwhelmingly strong. Eric Williams I can understand to a certain extent, because he could be an excellent defensive addition off the bench; the Suns woudln't develop match-up problems with Marion out of the game.
Williams would be interesting, but the Suns are also hosting Manu Ginobili tommorow (Saturday). They'd probably have to do a sign-and-trade with the Spurs to get him, and that's a possibility ... if the Suns could convince them to part with him. More likely, MG will either stay in SA or sign with Denver.
