Remembering Bill Gramatica

When Lucas Giolito threw a no hitter for the White Sox, Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez jumped up and down in celebration. Unfortunately the result was a twisted ankle. When I saw this I couldn’t help think of Cards’ kicker Bill Gramatica. He always struck me as a little immature even in college. When he made a big field goal on December 15, 2001 he ended his season via celebration. Often lost in the irony was that Pat Tillman was the one who followed the injury by kicking off. Here’s a memory for you.

Yeah, I remember that clear as day. As if being a Cardinals fan during that era in Syracuse wasn’t difficult enough....

I was at that game, and never saw Grammatica go down cuz my eyes are following the ball. But then he's laying there, and the next thing I know, Tillman is kicking off and I'm going "What the hell happened?"

Totally ridiculous play...so very Cardinal-esque at the time!

i thought grammatica did the following kickoff - then - made his injury known - I thought he was too embarrassed to admit he hurt it just after the field goal celebration...been a long time though - my memory may be off.

Wasn't a big kick either - 1st quarter - 0 to 0. yeah - he kicked off after it - then left the game.
