This is from the Saturday paper but it seems like old news.

Report: Eagles make offer for Fitzgerald
By GEOFF MOSHER, The News Journal (Wilmington, Delaware)

Posted Saturday, March 8, 2008
The Larry Fitzgerald-to-the- Eagles trade scenario takes on new intrigue daily, with a report surfacing Friday that the Eagles have submitted a trade offer to Arizona to obtain the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

The Cardinals and Fitzgerald have hit an impasse in contract renegotiations, according to The Arizona Republic, which also reported that the Eagles have offered cornerback Lito Sheppard and wide receiver Reggie Brown as trade bait with hopes of forcing the Cardinals to deal away the wideout if they can't reach an agreement to restructure his contract.

A league source confirmed to The News Journal that the Eagles have proposed a trade to Arizona, but the source couldn't elaborate on the details of the proposal.
The Cardinals still hold out hope of reaching a new deal with Fitzgerald or having him play out the rest of his contract, according to The Arizona Republic report.

Fitzgerald, 24, is scheduled to make $14.6 million in 2008 and $17.4 million in 2009, the final year of his contract. Cardinals general manager Rod Graves has adamantly stated that Fitzgerald will remain with the Cardinals.

I would do thast deal in a heartbeat. Save about ten mil. Aquire draft picks and two solid players.I would resign Quan, Wilson, and Warner. My first two rounds would go like this

1a Talib or Jenkins

1b Mendenhall or Stewart

2a Manningham or Cason

2b Schuenning or Rachal

That would solidify our Db situation add depth to our oline and speed to our recievers.

I am almost certain they haven't offered both their 1st and 2nd draft pick along with Brown and Sheppard. If so I would make that deal in a second. I'm pretty sure they offered those players and their 2nd which isn't enough.

The Cardinals getting multiple picks, early in the draft is not something I would look forward to at all.

A nothing reciever and an injury prone CB for Fitz? No thank you.

If the Eagles want a trade how about they start offering something of quality rather than spare parts.

The News Journal actually covers the Eagles regularly. Delaware and Central/Southern New Jersey papers latch onto the Eagles.

I dont think Sheppard is spare parts at all. Very good CB and would immediatly sit Green down without even any competition. But he cant stay on the field and he is rumored to want another new contract.

So we would be trading one contract we are trying to negotiate for another contract we have to try and renegotiate.

If we hold out and we dont get this deal done with Fitz by the league meetings end of this month and comp picks are announced, then I would call the Eagles back up. Here is why, the Eagles are projected to be getting a lot of comp picks, one in each 4th, 5th, and 6th round. Add that to their already extra 5th rounder they have and they may be willing to sweeten the pot knowing they have 10 draft picks to work with.

Also what exactly have they offered as of right now. First we heard of the Sheppard and 2nd rounder. Know we are hearing about Brown, is that an add on, making it Sheppard, Brown and a 2nd or did their new offer take away the 2nd rounder and add in Brown in its place. If it is Sheppard, Brown, and the 2nd right now I would really think long and hard if they came with a package with 1 or more draft picks added on to it come comp pick announcements.

I hope Brown wasn't replacing the 2nd rounder, 'cause I would rather have the pick. If we made that deal we could lose Fitz, but come away with Sheppard, Brown, and Trevor Laws/Antione Cason/Chilo Rachal/Ray Rice on top of who we get in the draft. I like Fitz, but if we are gonna lose him, getting three starters (two with PB potential) would take away a lot of the sting.

Just 1 thing. I like Trevor Laws as much as the next guy but he doesn't fit the DE in the 3-4 and is too small for NT. I know that Notre Dame played a 3-4 but most info on Laws states that he was playing out of position. Why would we draft him???

The Eagles can keep Brown. Give us Sheppard, their first rounder, 4th rounder, and a 2nd next year and I am seriously considering it. Stewart and Albert in round 1 and defense the rest of the way w/ possibe exceptions for Josh Johnson or more line depth.

In my opinion the less we have to pass the better off Leinart will be this year and this would secure our ground game. Defense gets youth and depth.

I would wait

if the Cardinals decide to change their mind and deal Fitz, I would wait till Draft day to do it and see if a team as the Eagles would offer something then when a lot of deals seem to go down in the heat of the moment. Why not Shepard (don't like his injury situation one bit and the fact that the Eagles picked up Samuels and want to deal him now), Brown (I think Bryant Johnson is a better WR) and this years second and fifth and next year's second pick of the Eagles as well. I have red flags on Lito and Brown but it might be a case of getting something for Fitz when in the end the Cards could end up with nothing for Fitz and having to cut him because of his salary hit after this season.

The Eagles offer should be Lito Sheppard, their 2008 first, and 2009 first round picks. That would be commensurate compensation to the Cardinals based on Fitzgerald's age and pro bowl performance.

Chopper, I saw every game Trevor Laws played. He played DT in a 4-3 and DE in a 3-4. On a lousy team, he made plays everywhere they put him.

I'm not a draftnik and have no clue where to rank him among defensive linemen. The man is a football player and will play well in the NFL, in my opinion.

And no, I'm not a blind fan, touting all my schools' (Notre Dame and ASU) guys. S Zbikowski is terrible. C John Sullivan tests and measures great but he's a lousy, badly overrated prospect. The video does not lie.

Trevor Laws will make the GM who drafts him very happy.

Co-sign. Laws is a gamer.

If he wasn't on such a lousy team, he probably would have had 1st Team AA considerations.

This offer from the Eagles appears to be a moot point. As Kent Somers stated in his article, the Cards are not interested in acquiring either CB Lito Sheppard or WR Reggie Brown.

One has to wonder what the Cards thinking would be if the two players mentioned were CB Sheldon Brown and WR Kevin Curtis, instead. Sheldon Brown is steady and durable, having started al 16 games the past 4 years, if I remember correctly. Curtis had a fine year (1,100 yards, 14.4 ave., 6 TDs) this past season, his first as a regular starter.

But, it would be surprising if the Eagles would offer either player, seeing as they want to dump Lito Sheppard and would obviously prefer to replace Reggie Brown with another WR.

While the Eagles struggled last year...one has to like the football decisions they make.

If the Cardinals had a CB tandem of Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard...it's hard not to imagine that they would make Sheppard play out his contract (allowing a disgruntled player to remain disgruntled) and...what are the odds they would even think of going out and signing the best free agent CB in the market, Assante Samuel?

Now the Eagles want to supplant Reggie Brown (who's a pretty decent WR) with Larry Fitzgerald.

Kudos to them. This is an organization that won't sit still...and they have their eye on the real prize.

They also cut a ton of well known and well regarded, but a little old players (Takeo Spikes the latest example)

They win (for the most part), so they get the benefit of the doubt--

I think the Eagles know the Donovan McNabb window is closing quickly, and havent forgotten that the one year they went to the Superbowl is the year they had a big time WR.

Both NFLdraftcountdown and the huddlereport have him with the ability to play the 3-4 DE spot.

"Played defensive tackle for the first 3 years of his college career and moved outside to end as a senior when the Irish transitioned to a 3-4...Notched an amazing 112 tackles as a senior, which matched the total of his three previous years combined...Could project to either tackle or end at the next level depending on the scheme"
