According to a report from The Athletic’s Katie Strang, former Columbus Blue Jacket Artemi Panarin has settled on an alleged sexual assault incident from December of 2023. You can read Strang's full report in the above link.
Per the report from Strang, “The alleged assault occurred in December 2023 during a Rangers road trip, according to two Rangers sources briefed about the allegation. Panarin and the woman, who was a regular part of the team’s travelling party, were at a post-game gathering at a hotel with about a dozen other players and staff members. Panarin allegedly took her phone and said he would only give it back if she retrieved it from his hotel room, the sources said. When she went to his hotel room to retrieve her device, Panarin pinned her down on the bed. She pushed him off, retrieved her phone, and left the room.”
The Rangers were also a part of the settlement, which has been deemed “resolved.”
The unnamed victim was let go in August of 2024, after the Rangers and Panarin settled. She didn't report the incident to law enforcement at the time. She also had a separate incident with the team before the Panarin incident.
In July of 2023, Panarin was arrested in Russia for “a gross violation of public safety, threatening the life and health of citizens,” when he illegally fired a gun. He was fined and released.
Panarin is the Blue Jackets franchise leader for points in a season and most assists in a season.
