The New York Giants and quarterback Jameis Winston agreed to a two-year deal last week that could be worth up to $16 million in incentives. The contract should be finalized in the coming days.

The addition came amid an ongoing search for a veteran presence in the quarterback room and featured meetings with Winston, Russell Wilson, and Joe Flacco. The Giants are also interested in Aaron Rodgers but are mired in a waiting game.

So, how did they land on Winston?

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, speaking to PIX11 Sports, reports that the Giants prefer Winston's locker room presence over Wilson's.

With Jameis Winston now in the fold, what's next in the plans at QB for the @Giants? @NYPost_Schwartz joined @TheKateRooney to give his thoughts on the possibilities.

"They feel Jameis Winston will be better in the room than Russell Wilson would have been, and better in the locker room," Schwartz said. "Russell Wilson is kind of a to-himself kind of guy -- popular guy and a good guy -- but Jameis Winston has that effervescent personality."

Despite those alleged feelings, the Giants are reportedly still in the mix for Wilson. They also continue to wait for Rodgers, whom Schwartz leaves the door open to them signing.

"I don't think it will happen but never say never. It could happen," he said.

Winston and Rodgers have traditionally been loved and respected by their teammates, but Wilson's history is a bit more rocky. It's easy to understand why the Giants factored that into their decision even if Wilson is eventually brought in.
