The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly not one of the teams in on Rams' free-agent wide receiver Cooper Kupp, according to FOX NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
"Despite reports connecting Cooper Kupp and the Jaguars, sources say Jacksonville is not in on Kupp," Schultz posted on X.
After the Rams were unable to find a trade partner for Kupp, the team released him recently. Naturally, the Jaguars were one of the teams that made sense for Kupp to land.
For one, Jaguars' GM James Gladstone comes from the LA Rams organization and was a part of the staff that drafted Kupp back in 2017. In addition to that, head coach Liam Coen spent two separate seasons working with the Rams' offense under McVay, not to mention that there will be overlap between the two systems.
The Jaguars also still have a need to fill at the wide receiver position as they look to find round out that room and make sure the production lost from trading Christian Kirk is replaced.
However, the Jaguars will instead be going in a different direction, reportedly, to address that need.
Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported that Kupp could earn up to $12 million per year. He has dealt with injuries the last three seasons, playing in 32 out of a possible 51 games, but has continued to produce when on the field.
Gladstone was asked about Kupp during his Thursday press conference:
"I got a ton of respect for Cooper," said Gladstone. "He was actually in the first draft that I ever had the chance to be a part of. And throughout the course of his career in Los Angeles, he is one of the purest to form wide receivers. Changed the dynamic for what's actually asked of those guys in modern football and I think at this point in time, it's fair to say, in pro free agency, we're always open to every opportunity that presents itself, but time will truly tell."
