Report: Joe Paterno, Penn State staged 14-year cover-up

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/...&format=&page=1&listingType=colfb#articleFull

"Taking into account the available witness statements and evidence, it is more reasonable to conclude that, in order to avoid the consequences of bad publicity, the most powerful leaders at Penn State University — Messrs. Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley — repeatedly concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky’s child abuse from the authorities, the Board of Trustees, Penn State community, and the public at large." - Former FBI Director Louis Freeh who led the independent panel investigating Penn State's role in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal

How anyone can still defend Paterno is beyond me.

Penn State is going to pay out the ass for this.

I heard that Matt Millen was in denial mode today.

I actually heard one of the local radio hosts (Roc or Manuch) defending JoePa and criticizing the report.

I wonder where Franco Harris is hiding? Right after JoePa got canned - he was seen at JoePa's house and spoke to the media ripping people questioning JoePa's handling of the Sandusky situation. Harris even held a press conference of his own and demanded that Paterno get his job back for as many games as he was forced to miss at the end of the 2011 season. Talk about blindly supporting a guy. Ugh.

Is that a pun?

BTW, there is a contingent of PSU students who are self appointed guardians of Joe's statue. Protecting it from vandals. Hopefully the pigeons overwhelm them. That would be appropriate.

The sledge hammer came down hard.

Yep I like that they vacated the wins. I was a bit concerned wtih a death penalty that really would harm kids who had nothing to do wtih what happened. Still all the lost scholarships and revenue will harm some innocent kids but the vacation of wins sends a very clear message, if you believe win at all costs is acceptable, it's not.

Paterno is no longer the all time wins leader(ESPN said 8th but I guess is now saying 12th), and a very clear message was sent, your attempt to sweep it under the rug didn't work.

I see Penn State fans on Scout.com complaining why go back to 98 but that's when the campus police got the first complaint by a mom that her son had been molested, it's when the first chance for Penn State to do the right thing was presented, and missed, so it's when the penalty should go back to IMO>

Glad to see it happen.

It just blows my mind (what seems like) how most of the fans of PSU can be in shock or even upset with what the NCAA handed down on them today. WTF :bang: And how does Joe Pa's family bash them for tarnishing his legacy? Are you kidding...Wow. Do they really believe he's innocent in all this...just amazing they can't see reality.

I guess covering up 45 felonies against innocent kids for 13 years isn't as bad as paying off students athletes with handfuls of cash!!! Whatever! I can live with what was handed down, but Penn St definately needed to lose football for at least 1 season.

Some people will just always blindly follow JoePa and refuse to believe he had any knowledge. Ridiculous.

A sad truth in todays society to how some people actually view their sports heroes & teams instead of right & wrong. :bang:
