The Los Angeles Lakers were in shambles toward the end and in the aftermath of Kobe Bryant’s career. The team struggled to find leadership after the death of patriarch and long-time owner Jerry Buss and failed to lure free agent talent to one of the NBA’s glamour franchises. Team president and controlling owner Jeanie Buss, Jerry’s daughter, knew it.
