Report: Maple Leafs sign center Devereaux
TORONTO -- The Detroit Red Wings ultimately were not interested in Boyd Devereaux. The Toronto Maple Leafs apparently are.
Citing undisclosed sources, TSN of Canada on Friday reported that the Maple Leafs have agreed to terms with Devereaux on a one-year contract.
A member of Detroit's Stanley Cup championship team in 2002, Devereaux spent last season with the Phoenix Coyotes before becoming an unrestricted free agent over the summer. The 28-year-old center was invited to training camp by the Red Wings but was unable to secure a roster spot.
According to TSN, Devereaux will be placed on waivers and assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, where he will make $95,000. If he is recalled and remains with the Maple Leafs, his salary will increase to $450,000. Drafted sixth overall by Edmonton in 1996, Devereaux has collected 46 goals and 85 assists in 509 career games with the Oilers, Red Wings and Coyotes.

$95,000? Good move on the Coyotes to pass on him. Nobody wants the guy.
