With success comes departure. That rings especially true for draft-savvy NBA front offices like the Oklahoma City Thunder. As colleges continue to navigate the transfer portal and NIL world, new job positions have opened up to emulate the professional sports front office approach they're being forced to take — a college GM.

The Thunder now have to fight off both the NBA and NCAA competition to keep their front office intact. Because of their wild NBA draft success in recent years, it shouldn't be a shocker to see some OKC scouts depart for collegiate positions.

According to HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto, it's already happened twice. Thunder amateur scout Corey Evans will be named the Cincinnati general manager and Thunder scout Andrew Slater has already left to be the NC State general manager.

Evans joined the Thunder in 2020 after being a basketball recruiting analyst at the college media outlet Rivals. Slater joined the Thunder in 2023 and spent two years with the organization.

This isn't anything new under Sam Presti. He's regarded as one of the best GMs in professional sports and has spent enough time in OKC to mentor plenty of pupils in his nearly two decades. His front office tree gains a couple of extra branches at the collegiate level.
