The 2025 NFL draft will begin on Thursday! In addition to the selections, the annual event often welcomes a flurry of activity, including trades involving veteran players. ESPN's Adam Schefter recently released his latest notes and intel. Seattle Seahawks veteran quarterback Sam Howell is named a potential trade candidate.
"Once Seattle signed [Drew] Lock, it opened up the possibility of a potential trade of [Sam] Howell, whom the Seahawks traded for just over a year ago in a deal with Washington," Schefter notes. "Howell is available, and if the Seahawks wind up trading him this weekend, it would open up the possibility of drafting just the third quarterback during Schneider's tenure."
Trading Howell became realistic when the Seahawks signed Lock from an expectation standpoint, but having Schefter directly call Howell "available" confirms previous reports. The Seahawks acquired him from the Commanders in exchange for draft capital.
The Seahawks hoped Howell would become an eventual succession plan at starting quarterback. He disappointed this past season, failing to show developmental potential. Howell appeared in just two contests, but he completed just 35.7 percent of his passing attempts, throwing zero touchdowns and one interception.
John Schneider completely revamped the quarterback position in Seattle this offseason. It appears at least one more change is coming with Howell's subtraction.
