Reports: Henry to join Red Bulls

ESPN.com news services
France's Thierry Henry has signed a deal to play for the New York Red Bulls of the MLS, according to media reports.

Henry, whose season with Barcelona finished Sunday, will play for the French team at the World Cup in South Africa next month before joining the Red Bulls, The Boston Globe and SI.com have reported.

Henry, 32, still has a year left on his contract with Barcelona. He holds the mark for most French national team goals with 51.

I can't stand the guy but this would be huge for the MLS.

As reported by AS, Barcelona's Thierry Henry has rejected claims that he has reached a pre-contractual agreement with United States MLS team New York Red Bulls as had been reported last week.

The Frenchman has declared that his future plans are limited to this summer's World Cup in South Africa and that there is nothing substantive in the reports tying him to America.

"For the moment, nothing is certain. I am a Barcelona player and have another year left on my contract", said '****'.

"Currently, my only worry is preparing for the World Cup with France. I will have time to reflect on my future later."
So much for that

Legally he probably has to deny it, but the writing is on the wall. There really is no place on Barcelona for him. Especially if they keep Ibrahimovich. Even if they don't get David Villa, they still have Pedro and Bojan Krcic up front, and they'll be getting more time than **** next year.

Makes a lot of sense. Like Chap said, Henry has almost surely played his last game for Barca. I'm sure Henry would love to be a part of the NY market, as well.

He's not the player he was a couple of years ago, but he's still got a lot left, IMO.

He would instantly become one of the best everyday players in MLS, old or no.

and with Juan Pablo Angel give the Red Bulls the best pair of strikers in MLS. They still need a consistent MF but these guys should still fill up the net.

Forgot he was still going. I remember him being average for Villa years ago after forking out something like £11 million on him. How old is he now?

35 or so? He is a quality player as far as MLS is considered, he fits in quite well with NY.

Good to see he is doing ok, a big strong lad with a decent touch. Had a look on Wiki and he did better than i remembered at Villa to be honest scored 20 odd goals in his first year and then fell away a bit.

We dont get to see much of your football but it looks like he has a decent strike rate over there.

You guys probably wouldn't enjoy it much. While the league is improving it still is a work in progress and has a long way to go.
