The Carolina Panthers threw quite the curveball on Thursday.

As first reported by Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, the Panthers did not send representatives to this morning's private workout for University of Georgia defenders Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams. The Athletic's Joe Person also confirmed the lack of attendance, adding that the team's brass remained behind to conduct their draft meetings.

Carolina's absence from Athens, Ga. comes as a bit of a surprise considering their perceived interest in both Walker and Williams. Walker, in particular, has gained a considerable amount of steam as the frontrunner for the Panthers' first-round pick.

But maybe their whereabouts on the day mean absolutely nothing.

President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan, who may have seen everything he's needed to see already, talked about Walker's positional fit in his pre-draft press conference on Tuesday.

"I mean, Jalon's a good player," Morgan stated. "I think for us, I guess I'll talk on it now, he's an outside linebacker for us that I feel like could do a lot in our defense. I think he's definitely a great person, really good player and I think he's got a bright future ahead."

That future could start next Thursday night, perhaps at the eighth overall pick.
