I could easily see only 1 RB being taken before the Cards' pick, and if that happens, I think they'll be all over Mendenhall in a hearbeat.

I don't really get why so many "experts" are picking the Cards to go with Rivers.

Rivers

While I personally would prefer Mendenhall, or an OT,Rivers would not be a bad selection. Could provide depth at ILB, and next year move outside. As for all the CB's, sometimes when a position goes back to back, it starts a run on that position, especially when their is no clear cut consensus on CB rankings.

McManaman's draft is part BPA, part need, changing wherever it suits him. It is often illogical. That said, maybe his mock will be more like reality than most.

Hey, the guy covers mainly boxing and hockey.

If Rivers is selected, don't expect Dansby to be back next year. That would signal to me that the Cards' brass doesn't have ANY confidence that he can be signed to a long-term deal.

I'm not so sure that would be a bad thing. We have 6 players (7 if you count Rackers) right now who are currently or will soon be making top $ for their respective positions.

Dansby has been open about the fact the he is going to go to the highest bidder, and with his questionable work ethic, who's to blame the Cards for not being overly eager to make him the highest paid LB in the game (which he will be IMO). One of the decisions I applaud Graves for most has been his reluctance to pay Dansby right away.

That makes no sense at all. The FO has control over whether or not a player gets traded, you don't draft in case of a trade. They might draft in case of a player leaving as a free agent the following offseason but never in case of a trade. Also, there hasn't been any word out of the Boldin camp or the front office about him being traded, someone jumped to a conclusion and everyone else hopped on the bandwagon so they don't miss out on a scoop.

Remember guys, most of the "experts" get it wrong most of the time.....

That said, I still hate our pick.

There are a lot of little technical things wrong with his logic. And yes, drafting players is a crap-shoot, although we can sometimes accurately guess which players we or will not be drafted based on team scheme.

For example:

Although Otah may be a physical freak, he's still probably not the type of lineman the Broncos would draft. They don't really have mauler body-types like Otah, but smaller lineman. In fact Otah out weighs the Bronco's lightest lineman by around 50 lbs. So I think that's a bad call.

McManaman also calls the Raiders defense "stout". He's half right, they can be stout, but they need more talented personnel in the interior of the defensive line than they have. Otherwise they'll be just as underwhelming as they were last year.

The Chargers won't take a RB in the first round to complement Tomlinson. As cool as Sproles is, he's probably not the backup answer in the event of injury, so yes the Chargers may draft a RB, but in the first?!

Like Skkorp said, the author has a chance at being right. If he wins it'll be more luck than skill.

A WR in case we trade Boldin? That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Trade a known commodity, and one of the best in the league so you can draft an unknown commodity and pay him almost as much. Not to mention the top recievers in this draft are either absolutely tiny (Jackson), or slower possession guys. The only one that would come close to what we need is Thomas from MSU, and he'd be a reach at 16.

Also, ILB is pretty far away from first round need. Grab one in the 6th, 7th, or UDFA, but taking one in the 1st is ludicrous. If we don't go DE, CB, RB, or OL in the 1st I'll be amazed.
