Another one I didn't expect; gone far too soon. RIP Bill Paxton. And Cameron should have let him find the Heart of the Ocean.

I never thought of him as a good actor. "Mr Monotone" as I called him. Still sad to see someone as young as 61 pass so soon.

Very sad. He was always kindof comically bad, but he also played that 'everyman' really well and he always seemed to fit into the parts he played like a ball bearing. I think he was HILARIOUS in True Lies.

Seems like he was a really good guy, based on the reactions from hollywood.

RIP

One of my favorite actors. Variety of roles across a long career. Sad to see him pass away. He will be missed and as Bert points out the reaction tells me he was a good guy on top of it

So sad. I wonder what type of surgery he was having?

Heart surgery. He had a stroke and died due to some complications. :|

He had told others that he was very nervous about the surgery, but he also had plans laid out for the future.

RIP. One of my favorite films of his is Traveller about Irish-American con artists (similar to gypsies).

That's sad in itself. Going in to surgery knowing there is a chance you won't wake up. He seemed like a good person to.

Tom Hanks gave this really emotional interview about him. Talked about what a great family man he was and how anytime you were on a set with Bill you had a psychiatrist because he was a great listener and gave great advice.

Almost made me cry! RIP. :(

ASFN's own @Mike Olbinski took part in this...

Hundreds of storm chasers banded together to honor the late actor Bill Paxton, who played the co-leading role in perhaps the most memorable tornado-themed movie.

Paxton, who died Sunday at age 61, starred alongside Helen Hunt in the 1996 blockbuster "Twister," in which the two played a pair of storm chasers researching tornadoes.

Upon learning of Paxton's passing, nearly 200 storm chasers logged in on theSpotter Network and entered GPS coordinates to spell out B.P.

The coordinates were entered in an area along the Kansas-Oklahoma border known as Tornado Alley, which served as the backdrop for the film.

The absolute dryest actor ive ever seen. He's the physical embodiment of cotton mouth. I dont think his montone voice pitches up or down once in 'Twister'. He just speaks louder or softer, but same tone

Yeah, you're dumping on him in the Oscar thread instead. :)

Could be, yes. Depends if he ever worked on projects with escaped rapists, id have to research.

Now you're using specifics--when you started this whole complaint with gross generalizations. But whatever--you're not worth my time.

Bill Paxton recently said childhood illness led to heart damage

http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/hea...ldhood-illness-led-to-heart-damage/ar-AAnyYNh

Actor Bill Paxton opened up about a childhood bout with rheumatic fever weeks before he died, saying the illness left him with heart damage.

The "Twister" star died at 61 on Saturday after complications from heart surgery, his family said in a statement.

While the exact cause of Paxton's death remains unclear, the actor revealed on Marc Maron's "WTF" podcast earlier this month that his bout with rheumatic fever left him mostly bedridden for six months when he was 13.

"I woke up one night," Paxton explained on the podcast, which was published on Feb. 6. "I had been to a hockey game, and I woke up one night and I had a lot of pain in my left wrist."

After several rounds of testing, doctors ultimately diagnosed Paxton with rheumatic fever, a condition that can cause permanent damage to the heart and lead to heart failure, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Paxton addressed this in the interview, explaining that while he experienced pain in the wrist, it often leads to heart issues.

"It usually damages your heart valves," Paxton said.

The podcast host then asked the actor if Paxton experienced heart damage following his battle with the infection.

"Well yeah," he replied, his voice petering away. "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

The doctors told Paxton he probably contracted the illness from a "bad sore throat" he had previously suffered him.

"It kind of isolated me at an interesting age," Paxton said of the illness, addressing how the bed rest impacted him. "Suddenly I was in this voyeuristic kind world, where I had TV but there wasn't much TV on in those days, and I read a lot and looked out the window at the golf course."

Rheumatic fever often comes about after a person gets a strep throat infection. Should heart issues follow the fever, they typically show up many years later, according to the Mayo Clinic.
