Very sad. I grew up watching Bobby play when he was with the Yankees.

An open letter to Mark Grace

Gracie, maybe this would be a good time for you to smoke your last cigarette!

A fraternity brother of mine, who lives in Florida, has been going through chemotherapy for lung cancer. In a few short months, he went from being an athletic 59 to an old man waiting to die.

When I gave up cigarettes many years ago, I chewed on a pen for a year. Why not give it a try?

I know the Stats don't back me up but...

Bobby Bonds was one of the best pure baseball players athletically that I have ever seen. He was a free swinger like Vlad Guerrero but he could run, hit , hit with power, field, and throw. He was a real 5 tool guy. When he got on base you could see the sheer terror in the other team's face much like when Barry strides to the plate in a crucial at bat. He was simply overshadowed by Mays, Cepeda, McCovey, Marichal etc.. and never really got his due. You had to see him play to know but he was a stallion.

In a related note to Mark Grace how about a message to Bob Brenly to get off the sticks as well. With all the information we have about the impact of smoking, I can't believe anyone does it.
