Last week the world lost a great woman & a great Cardinal fan. My Mom & Dad were married for 55 years, had 8 children, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She cooked, sewed, was an interior & exterior decorator, landscaped, was a floral designer, restored & antiqued furniture, and ran a cookie catering service out of her kitchen. And BTW, she was a full-time MOM & housewife. She even insulated my attic just 10 yrs ago. She was a 13 year lung cancer survivor, who never quit at anything in her life. After 2 bouts of pneumonia this Winter/Spring, her partial set of lungs just couldn't hold up.

I have to mention a funny story that involved our Cardinals. My Mom & Dad had never been to a professional football game. My folks lived in Syracuse, NY & I was then living in the Wash, DC area. It was 1993 & I decided to take my wife & parents to a Cardinal / Redskin game @ RFK. The Cardinals had lost 14 straight to the Skins on that field, most of them losses were very ugly (31-0, 34-0, 41-3, 33-17, 27-10, 45-7, 28-0, 23-0). Unfortunately, I witnessed 11 of those in person. My Mom was so excited & decked out in Cardinal gear. She could care less what had happened the previous 14 years, and was convinced the Cardinals would win. She talked smack with all the Redskin fans around us as the game was about to begin. The Redskin fans were very respectful & enjoyed the banter. The Skins were 1-0, the Cardinals were 0-1. Joe Gibbs had just retired after a phenomenal run, and this was Joe Bugel's last year in AZ. Skins fans would just look at my Mom & chuckle, explaining to her that the Cardinals had lost the previous year 41-3 on that same field. My Mom's retort was "I wasn't there last year. I'm here this year & we WILL win". The Cardinals WON 17-10. A Skins fan after the game turned to my Mom, shook her hand & proclaimed, "You obviously knew something that the 55,000 fans in this stadium didn't". To this day, it was one of the great sports moments of my life.

Please keep my family in your thoughts & prayers.

Wow, PA. Your mom was, as you say, an extraordinary and special woman. On one day in D.C. she may have been 1 in 55,000...but on all the others she was clearly 1 in a million! God bless your mom and your family, PA.

There's no doubt you mom's spirit will rage on forever.

Thank you so much for sharing your memories with us.

My deepest condolences,

Mitch

So Sorry about your loss.Cancer took my mother when she was just 58.This was 16 years ago.She had Breast cancer 11 years before and got a clean bill of health after treatment. Then out of nowhere she started getting a cough and she went to the DR and she had 2 spots that appeared since her last checkup a few months before.Drs tried radiation then surgery..Her cough started around Christmas and she passed away February 9th.
3 weeks later my Grandmother(Moms side) passed away in her sleep the first night home from the hospital being treated for broken hip ,various other ailments.ast words she said to my uncle was "i hope tomorrows a better day and i am glad to be home".
Even after 16 years the pain is still there.I try and look at it like neither one are suffering anymore and both are in a better place.Just remember the good times and try to smile.
