Former ASU football player taken off life support

On Saturday morning, Richard Thompson and his family made the decision to take his son off of life support.

Tyrice Thompson was a father and former football player at Arizona State University.

Police said he was stabbed five times last weekend outside the Martini Ranch in Scottsdale where he worked as a security guard.

To say Richard Thompson is a proud father would be an understatement. He smiled as he led CBS 5 cameras to a display that showcased some of Tyrice Thompson's biggest accomplishments.

"This is a picture when he had the opportunity to try out for the Colts," said Richard Thompson.

Tyrice Thompson was the youngest of four children. The 27-year-old was a former tight end for ASU. Coaches called him a role model, known for his people skills.

"When they wanted to bring in some new recruits, Tyrice was the person who showed them around," said Richard Thompson.

Tyrice Thompson had only been on the job at Martini Ranch a few weeks the night he was attacked. Police say he was stabbed several times in the back.
