This is just my initial sense having watched the game once. What players did I miss? What players might I have been wrong about?

Getting late here in MA. Back with thoughts and this week's roster predictions tomorrow.

1)Peterson? Patrick Peterson? I beg to differ Mitch!!!

2)I also don't feel Martin played that well tonight either. I don't see any explosion in his game at this point.

3)Foote was there to make tackles, but he lacks burst to make plays in the backfield mainly because of his age. I think Bowles ace in the hole "double A-gap blitz" is gonna be a bomb this year with the loss of those both #58's! We tried it several times with zero success with him & Demens.

4) other than Abraham we have nada on the edge chasin the passer

You ought to be the head of scouting if you could evaluate all those guys watching a game once. Kudos :)

The original post might be more enticing with focus on a few players in each category, along with a sentence or two..

If we send Buchannon and Honey in on the same blitz scheme, we might hit some serious QB.

I just don't see the love for Peterson. He's a great athlete, but he's no where near the cover corner that Sherman is. Not even close. The great receivers have their way with him. I hope he proves me wrong.

Did AJ score tonight? AJ played the first down marker twice and got it but Peterson was playing on his own and didn't let AJ get by him. We got by all their defenders. It's give and take when it's like that.

is true.
peterson has media pushing him.but he is not effectly as a sherman.
i dont see many break up passes ,he alkways give to much time to his wrs.
sherman is more aggresive..all the catches a wr made with him are not easy completation

I hardly ever agree with anything PCF has to say however in this instance I side with him. Peterson plays soft, in fact so soft sometimes that he allows drive sustaining completions that keeps the defense on the field. Sure he may not get beat deep because of this however it gives the other team way too many new sets of downs. To me a top notch CB doesn't allow completions period. Doesn't matter if they are short passes, long passes, etc. To me a shutdown corner shuts down a receiver, not contain him.

I agree with my Pops on Peterson. I love his ability, professionalism and leadership but I think Sherman is far better (though I can't stand him) and Haden is a tad better.

How did John Brown impress? I saw him drop 3 first downs. The TD was nice but last night confirmed the worries I had over his hands.

Peterson is not the technical CB that Sherman and Haden are yet. No worries, he will continue to develop.

Brown made a great catch, and had a drop. Big scenery change from Pitt St, and I think some nerves are understandable.

Mitch, were you surprised that Golden moved ahead of Powell? And I don't think that Carlson was targeted once. The game would have turned out a lot differently, had CP not been scary bad.

Allow me to rephrase, a top notch CB challenges almost all passes thrown his way. Peterson seems content to allow way too many passes in the short zones to be completed and then does a crappy job of tackling. Result is a 5-7 yd gain ends up 10-12 because he doesn't close quickly enough and gives half effort tackling resulting in the receiver getting that extra 3-5 yds. I expect him to be smart aggressive not smart passive. If you are going to allow a completion at least be on the receiver at the moment the pass gets there or immediately after and make the tackle at the point of the catch.

Agreed. With the league rules, CBs are gonna give up completions.

I also agree the new rules are impacting the DBs otherwise there are several answers to that snide remark about "superman" One of them was just elected to the NFL hall of fame and we got to watch him shut down the best receivers in the game for years.

But I agree with Carpa as well as I watch our WRs, among the best in the game, having passes tightly contested all the time.

One of the the things I was most impressed with in the Texans game was how Arians and staff schemed to get our guys uncovered for easy completions.
