There were 83,828 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll.
Riverside Prep’s Jacob Villegas ended with 32.46% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.
The baseball player received 27,210 votes, beating out 17 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
To earn a spot on the ballot, Villegas struck out seven batters and allowed one hit over 4 2/3 innings to lead the Silver Knights to a 14-0 victory over Claremont on March 11.
In the voting, Villegas beat Silverado’s Paola Maust, who received 21.36% at 17,906 total votes.
The nominees were selected based on performances between March 10-15.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.

- How long have you been playing baseball and how did you get started: I've been playing baseball ever since I was nine years old. What got me started was seeing all my friends trying it out.
- What do you like most about baseball: The thing I like most about baseball is definitely building more friendships with my teammates and seeing them succeed.
- Do you have a pregame ritual: I wouldn't say I have a pregame ritual. I just keep good vibes in the dugout and positive thoughts.
- What’s your most memorable sports moment: My most memorable sports moment was probably winning MVP for the Cross Valley League last year.
- If you could be someone else for a day, who would it be and why: It would have to be my dad of course. Because I want to know what it feels like to be able to provide for a family like he does everyday.
- Someone hands you $1 million, how would you spend it: I’d definitely give back to my family with it all.
- Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world and why: Hawaii to visit my brother out there.
- If you had an extra hour every day, how would you spend it: I would spend it with my family and friends.
- What superpower do you wish you had: I wish I had the ability to teleport anywhere because that's what I've always wanted to do.
