There were 58,708 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll.
Riverside Prep’s Trent Bourgeois ended with 56.55% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.
The baseball player received 33,200 votes, beating out 14 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
To earn a spot on the ballot, Bourgeois helped lead the Silver Knights to two victories in three games. He began the week by going 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run in a 13-2 victory over Adelanto on March 3. He hit a single and scored the lone run for the Silver Knights in a 2-1 loss to Downey on March 4. Bourgeois pitched four innings with six strikeouts and allowed two earned runs on seven hits in a 21-3 victory over Serrano on March 7. He also went 1 for 3 with three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases.
In the voting, Bourgeois beat Riverside Prep classmate Bree Garcia, who received 29.31% at 17,207 total votes.
The nominees were selected based on performances between March 3-8.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.

- How long have you been playing your sport and how did you get started: I’ve been playing baseball my entire life. It all started with t-ball and my family being my first coaches.
- What do you like most about your sport: The thing I like most about baseball is the learning process you have to go through to be a better player and person as baseball is a mental sport.
- Do you have a pregame ritual: I always do the cross and blow a kiss to the sky for my grandmother who passed away a few years ago.
- What’s your most memorable sports moment: My most memorable sports moment was our recent walk-off win on our new field against Colony.
- If you could be someone else for a day, who would it be and why: If I were to be anyone for a day I would be Mike Trout so that I can see the world of baseball from his point of view and see the work of a professional baseball player.
- Someone hands you $1 million, how would you spend it: I’d learn how to invest it into something that would make it grow so I could support my family in the future.
- Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world and why: I’d go to New York because it’s very popular and a nice place to go.
- If you had an extra hour every day, how would you spend it: I’d use it to get extra work in for baseball to better myself.
- What superpower do you wish you had: I would definitely want super speed so I could get things done faster and have more time in the day to do other activities.
