EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Richard Jefferson has agreed to a contract extension with the Nets, the team announced Thursday.
Terms of the agreement were not released.
Jefferson, a member of the U.S. Olympic team, averaged 18.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season.
"Richard's work ethic over the past three years has produced a significant development in his basketball performance," Nets general manager Rod Thorn said. "The Nets management feels very strongly that Richard will continue this upward spiral and be a cornerstone of this franchise, and we are very pleased that he will continue his basketball career past his current contract with the New Jersey Nets."
The Nets traded restricted free agent Kenyon Martin to the Nuggets earlier in the offseason, and also dealt veteran guard Kerry Kittles, enraging leader and point guard Jason Kidd. The Nets, though, have now held on to the talented Jefferson, who is only 24 years old.
