The up coming draft is actually quite exciting. This offseason, speaking for myself, is extremely interesting. Yes, the Cardinals have been very inactive with free agency, but Harry put it best in a post on this board, that the Cardinals are attacking this offseason in a different way.
Last year was "All or Nothing" and it became "All a Nightmare". [2015-2016] was supposed to be it, that was the big push, the time where all the money on the roster lined up to put the team in the position to win it all. You can even go back to when Keim was talking in 2013, and 2014 about how this roster was being built for 2015.
This year? Well, it sounds like Bruce Arians convinced Keim to give it one more shot, but this time they are going after the title "Arians style". They are going to roll the dice, take chances, and see if they come up sevens. They are betting that veterans with quality experience and professionalism can give it one more gasp of what they have left skill wise in the NFL, and allow the collective mental toughness on the roster, to win a Championship. .........but not at the expense of the rebuild that will need to happen in 2018.
and if that is not the plan, then to be honest, I have no idea what this front office is doing. Yet, through it all I am not really worried, the difference between the "lean years" when Graves was in charge and now with Keim in charge ? FINALLY, they have invested in the trenches. The offensive line and defensive lines are still stocked with talent. You can always build from there.
Now below is my first crack at talking about the draft. The Cardinals are sitting in a perfect place in the draft. They are at 13, and they will be at a spot where, for the first time in years, I think they will trade down. There will be too many pass rushers, an offensive tackle and running backs that other teams will covet which gives the Cardinals a great chance of trading down. If Fornette is there at 13, I think the Raiders are game on trading up for that pick and player. They are kicking the tires on Adrian Peterson and even Marshawn Lynch, they want a power back.
The first two rounds are going to be about getting a quarterback. The 13th overall pick may be a little bit too early, and the middle of round 2 may be a little too late.
The ideal scenario ? The Cardinals trade 1st round picks with the Raiders and pick up an extra 2nd round pick.
Below is be top 3 players for the first three rounds, this WILL change that I am sure of:
** Myles Jarrett, Jonathan Allen, Malik Hooker, Mike Williams & Marlon Humphrey won't be there in the first round, IMHO.
1st Round:
- Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama
- Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida
- O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
2nd Round:
- QUARTERBACK:
- Pat Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech
- DeShaun Watson, QB, Clemson
- DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
- Kevin King, CB, Washington
- Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU
* so much value in this 2nd round, this was tough!
3rd Round:
- Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia
- Jordan Sterns, SS, Oklahoma State
- Jalen Robinette, WR, Air Force
