The Carolina Hurricanes host the Washington Capitals Wednesday night as Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin continues to chase down Wayne Gretzky's goal scoring record.

Ovechkin currently sits four goals back of breaking the record and he has a good chance of adding a few more in Raleigh, a place he's enjoyed a lot of good memories.

The Russian superstar was drafted first overall by the Capitals in North Carolina, as the Hurricanes hosted the 2004 draft and he's also scored 51 totals goals in 91 games against the Canes, with Lenovo Center being the road venue he's lit the lamp at the most.

Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour spoke a bit on Ovechkin before the game Wednesday. Here's what he had to say:

On the buzz around Ovechkin as he inches closer to the record: I think based on the circumstances, for sure. I mean, there's a lot going on with that big of a milestone and rightfully so. It's a once in a lifetime thing and something no one thought was going to happen. So it's a special time for him and so it's going to follow him around obviously until it gets done.

On how big of a milestone something like this is: I think it is big based on the fact that nobody thought that any of Gretzky's records were going to get touched. It also kind of, for me, I think it's even great for Wayne because it just shows how good of a player he was. We're talking about this goal thing, and Gretzky was a great goal scorer, but he was a better playmaker and nobody is even close to that. That to me, shows the overall impact that Gretzky had and it's getting relived with people that maybe never watched him play. So I think it's all good.

On if he preferred playing against or coaching against Ovechkin: Neither. It's been pretty interesting to see because watching him play for this long and at this high of a level, I don't think anybody anticipated that. To be able to continue to produce in the way he does it is pretty remarkable.
