Rodman arrested for alleged public drunkenness

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Dennis Rodman has had another run-in with the law, this time for allegedly being drunk in public.
The former NBA player was arrested Thursday afternoon after police received a call that he was driving his boat in Newport Harbor while under the influence of alcohol, Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.
``When we got there, Mr. Rodman was at the dock next to the (restaurant) attempting to untie the boat. Deputies observed Mr. Rodman fall to the ground,'' Amormino said. ``They interviewed him and determined he was under the influence of alcohol, unable to care for himself or his property.''
The 42-year-old Rodman was being held in the Newport Beach jail.
``Once he sobers up, I'm sure he'll post bail,'' Amormino said.
Since Rodman retired from the NBA, Newport Beach police have gone to his home more than 70 times because of loud parties.
He also was convicted of drunken driving. Last year, he was arrested and accused of obstructing officers investigating a code violation at his seaside restaurant. Prosecutors did not press charges.
Rodman, who led the NBA in rebounds seven times, hasn't played since being released by the Dallas Mavericks after a 13-game stint late in the 1999-2000 season. He played in 23 games with the Los Angeles Lakers before being let go late in the 1998-99 season.
He earlier played seven seasons with the Pistons, two with the San Antonio Spurs and three with the Chicago Bulls. He began his NBA career in 1986 in Detroit.
