CHICAGO (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez says he's fighting for his life.
Why do you want to kill him?!?!Hey A-Rod. Just go away. Nobody cares about you anymore.

As a lifelong Yankee fan, this Aroid circus has completely eclipsed the Billy Martin / Reggie Jackson, and the Martin/Steinbrenner fiascos...
I never, ever wanted Aroid on my team. He will never be considered a "Yankee" and was never worthy of wearing the pinstripes...
The Yanks had their shot a few years back when his initial contract was up. Unfortunately, the Steinbrenners were still calling the shots then and in their ultimate futility, decided to lavash a record amount of $$ on this loser, when they could've simply said good-bye...![]()

Reggie Jackson is one bad mutha. And a Sun Devil. He rules and ruled! As a lifelong Yankees hater, I loved that particular era (minus the Munson Cessna crash/death). I chortled with glee every time the Yankees faced another tribulation - that's the figurative chortle with glee as I never really learned how to chortle.
Nothing personal 82CardsGrad but Rodriguez is just the kind of guy I picture when I think of the Yankees.

Ok then. I couldn't stand those Oriole teams for some reason.I really had to walk a tight-wire with Reggie. I loved him, loved his antics and loved his spats with Billy and George. It was sometimes a real challenge to continue to cheer him at the plate while cursing the team he played for. I was a diehard Orioles fan at the time so it made cheering for Reggie even more difficult.

And to the rest of us, A-Rod is the very symbol of the Yankees![]()

wartsIt's funny how, growing up and living inside the Yankee-shere (less than 1/2 hour from my home to The House that Ruth Built), I never much heard this type of sentiment... I just always assumed the world knew that the Yankees were the greatest pro sports franchise and that was that...
I moved away in 1999 and since that time, I will admit that the haze has lifted and I can actually see a bit more clearly, less biased...
Still, as much as I have grown to love the Dbacks, the Yankees will always be my team...huge worts and all...![]()

Do you feel the same way about Clemens, Giambi, Petite, Knobloch, Sheffield, and Grimsley? It's an honest question not an attempt to instigate. I just dont know why so many Yankee fans are eager to lynch Aroid but have given several former Yankees who were jacked a free pass.

It seems that many Yankee fans are eager to lynch Aroid but have given several former Yankees who were jacked a free pass.
Great question and one that we Yankee fans passionately debate quite often. Within Yankee fandom, there has been and continues to be a huge divide on this topic.
You need to add Boggs, Damon and Youklis to that list as well...
My views on Aroid, as well as other I'll mention below, are not at all based on his use of roids... though, clearly the roids situation has created the mess he and the Yankees are in.
My opinion of Aroid since the very first day he joined the Yankees was that he is a class-A ******** and the single greatest narcissist to ever play the game. I hated him way before he became a Yankee, never knowing he was a roid user. I never wanted him in pinstripes and truthfully, took great pleasure in his many failings as a Yankee. So much so that when he and Varitek got into it several years ago, I was rooting for Varitek! If you know anything about us Yankee fans, we would NEVER, EVER root for a Red Sox player under ANY conditions...
My views are viritually the same with respect to Clemens, Damon and Boggs...There was never any chance that I can get on board with cheering for dude who played large portions of their career for the one team I hated most - the Red Sox.
With regard to Sheffield and Knobby... I honestly don't have any deep feelings about them at all. Knobby was only with the team for 4 years and Sheffield for 3. Grimsley was only there for 2.
I could very well be in the minority - though, based upon conversations with other Yankee fans I don't believe that's the case - but my views on certain players were baked in the cake exclusive of any roid incident(s).
Lastly, as for Pettitte... Man - this is a tough one as I really, really love the guy (as all Yankee fans do). Pettitte typically causes the biggest arguements amongst Yankee fans.
Unlike the rest of the players mentioned here, Andy was drafted by the Yankees. He admitted to using roids, took a very mature and professional approach to the issue... And has since been clean.
He is one of the original Fab Four (Jeter, Rivera, Posada and Pettitte), who all played together in the minors. All came up at roughly the same time to the bigs. And all gave us Yankee fans nearly 2 decades of incredible memories.
So, for me, I will always consider Andy a true Yankee great and someone deserving of wearing the pinstripes. Now, what happens to him after he retires (# retired by the Yanks?, HOF?) - I'll leave that up to the people who make those decisions...
EDIT: Realized I left out Giambi... I put him in the same boat as Clemens, Damon and Boggs...even though he hadn't played for Boston prior to joining the Yankees. Never liked him before he joined the team. Never grew on me when he was with the team.
They have not been called The Evil Empire for no reason. The Dark Side!So many cheaters on the Yankees it is hard to remember them all.
