...this move really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

He's old and over the hill. He played awful last year. If he's going to be worth it, he better return to his playing from from his previous Phoenix stint.

I think what the Coyotes are banking on is his view towards the occasional fan. Roenick might be able to put a fans in the seats since he was a fan favorite here in Phoenix. However, from a hockey stance I think this was a horrible decision by the Front Office. As you said, he is over the hill and coming off his worst year. I doubt he can help this team at all and if this was the 'elite' talent which was mentioned then our offence is in alot of trouble.

I do not think it is that bad. He had 22 points in 58 games and never really looked great after breaking his ankle which 20 of those games were played. He was a assistant captain on a division foe, so that could help. He was never happy in L.A. and that could be part of low points as well. And when he get hurt it is for putting his body on the line. He is still physical for 36 and if the price is low can be a great have great leadership value as well as putting some butts in the seats and give us a real home ice advantage.

Ugh, he is going to be making $1.2 million + incentives...

(CP) -- Jeremy Roenick is returning for second a stint in Phoenix, choosing the Coyotes over the Calgary Flames.

The 36-year-old centre signed a $1.2-million US, one-year deal, plus incentives, with his former team Tuesday.

"In the end I made the decision really because of my family," Roenick told The Canadian Press on Tuesday, adding that he's building a home in the Phoenix area. "And the fact I think Phoenix is going to be much improved with some of their recent moves."

He said turning down an offer from the Flames was difficult.

"What really bothers me in this decision is that (Flames GM/coach) Darryl Sutter is so near and dear to my heart," said Roenick, who played for Sutter in Chicago. "He's always stood by me. It would have been a really good thing with him in Calgary but I had to do what's right for my family."

Roenick, whose two children lived in Phoenix last year while he played in Los Angeles, took a big pay cut from the $4.94-million salary the Kings paid him last season when he put up only 22 points (9-13) in 58 games.

"I said I would go cheap and I did," said Roenick, who has undertaken a rigorous off-season workout program. "This is going to be a big year for me to re-establish myself as a top player."

I agree, it's not a bad signing. The didn't spend too much money on him. I think he can help out a bit.

$1.2 is chump change. Horrible move? Hardly. 97 wil prove you wrong.

I hope you are right, but we hardly needed another center on the team who can play on the second or third line. We already have Reinprecht, Scatchard, Ricci, and now Roenick. That might mean that the team will not be resigning Comrie (they could also deal him because he is a RFA) who had the 2nd most points on the team last year (not to mention tied for 1st in goals).

He might do well next year but I just do not see how signing another center while neglecting the wing positions is going to help the team.

We need to make a trade for someone like Gomez. This team is far from done this offseason. We need a legitimate scorer. I see the Roenick deal as a move for a very popular player here in Phoenix for cheap, that could have a great year and score. There is no risk. Let the guy skate along side Nagy and we'll see what happens. And for the casual PHX fan, it might help fans who left the team come back. I hope he has a great year. Maybe we'll bring in Anson Carter, but I would really like to see a move for Gomez. We arent done by any means.
