LATTA — The Roff Lady Tigers scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Latta 6-5 Thursday at the Lady Panther Classic.
The big win followed a head-scratching 10-5 loss to Tishomingo – the same Tish team that Roff defeated 16-3 earlier this season.
Meanwhile, Latta bounced back with a convincing 9-1 win over local rival Byng. The Lady Pirates got their season started with a 19-4 setback to Class 6A foe Southmoore.
Roff 6, Latta 5
Roff trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Tigers loaded the bases when P Smith walked, K Mannis singled and Emma Hardison was intentionally walked with two outs.
The first Roff run of the inning scored on a Latta error. The Lady Tigers then got consecutive RBI singles from Sophie Eldred, Maygan Hill and Jaxie Newby to end the game.
Roff out-hit Latta 14-9. Eldred led the way for the visitors, finishing 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Hill finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Newby ended up 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
Hardison finished 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for Roff and Kami Mannis went 1-for-2 and scored a run.
Talise Parnell got the Lady Panthers started with at two-run homer in the top of the first inning. She finished 1-for-2 with two intentional walks.
Rylee Jones paced Latta at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Savannah Senkel and Lilli Hudson both drove in runs for the home team.
Tishomingo 10, Roff 5
Tish trailed 4-2 before pushing across six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lady Indians added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth frame to extend their lead to 10-4.
Kimber Collins led the THS offense. She finished 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBIs and two runs scored. Jordyn Hook went 2-for-2 with a walk, two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
Emma Hardison led the Lady Tigers’ eight-hit offense. She finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, an RB and a run scored. Keela Scott went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Breylea Pinley ended up 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and a run scored.
Latta 9, Byng 1
Hannah Wort hit an RBI double in the top of the first inning to give Byng a quick 1-0 lead.
The Lady Panthers answered with five runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. That early outburst included a pair of two-run homers by Talise Parnell and Lilli Hudson and a sacrifice fly by Kymber Davis.
Latta piled up 22 hits in the contest. Kieranie Williams paced the LHS offense, going 4-for-4 with an RBI. She hit one of five LHS doubles in the contest.
Parnell and Taryn Cotanny both went 3-for-3 for the hosts. Cotanny also hit a double.
Audrey Forshay ended up 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Hudson finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Taylor Cotanny and Rylee Jones also had two hits, including doubles, for the Lady Panthers.
Latta stranded 12 base runners in the contest.
Wort and Aubrey Pope had two hits apiece to pace Byng at the plate.
Southmoore 19, Byng 4
The SabreCats ran away from Byng early with 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and nine more in the second.
Bree Gomez paced a 21-hit SHS barrage. She went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored. Olivia Smith also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, five RBIs and three runs scored. Kaylee Baxter finished 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for Southmoore.
Byng collected nine hits in the game. Hannah Wort and Kinley Sellers both finished 2-for-2 and scored one run each for the Lady Pirates. Sophia Townsend went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Audrey Pope finished 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for the Lady Pirates.
