A friend recommended it. I have an older tv, HD compatible but not built in so I have one HDMI input and it's to the cable box. But I have cable modem 12MB now and ROKU supports wirelss so I'm strongly considering it to stream movies from Netflix.

Just curious if people have opinions compared to say Apple TV or others? I know lots of tv's have that built in now but I am not really looking to get a new tv anytime soon.

I just ditched my cable and picked up a Roku. I subscribe to Hulu plus and Netflix. Really loving it so far.

I have a Roku and it's awesome; I love it. I haven't used the other products, though, so I can't really compare them.

I bought it so I could get a netflix stream on a TV that doesn't have an internet connected BluRay.

I have the Western Digital Live TV Hub:

Very similar product, but plays a few more file formats and has a 1 TB hard drive for ripping or storing media files (movies, pictures, music). Also streams the standard internet fare, including Netflix. It's awesome and I love it!

However, if you only want to do Netflix, then Roku will suffice and save you a few bucks too.

If you want to compare all the different media streamers out there, here is a good place to start:

Yes. I've set one up for my ex wife and inlaws, too. Each time it's worked like a charm right out of the box without the usual BS of troubleshooting connections and such.

I'm actually a bit leery now for a differnet reason. I guess there's some discussion that major studios are now complaining about Netflix streaming movies they want to negotiate some deal that pays them more for it because so many more people can be watching their film streaming nobody will buy DVD's or blu rays of movies anymore.

Will probably get resolved but it would be just like Hollywood to start saying you can't stream a movie for 60 days after we release the DVD for sale.

I'd be okay with that. It actually seems like a really good compromise.

Also, I'd be wiling to pay more for the streaming content as the library becomes more comprehensive.
