Role Models

Release Date: November 7, 2008
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: David Wain
Screenwriter: David Wain, Paul Rudd, Ken Marino, Tim Dowling, W. Blake Herron
Genre: Comedy
MPAA Rating: R (for crude and sexual content, strong language and nudity)
Website: RoleModelsmovie.com | SturdyWings.org | DavidWain.com/Blog

Starring: Seann William Scott, Paul Rudd, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jane Lynch, Bobb'e J.Thompson, Elizabeth Banks

Plot Summary: Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott star in "Role Models" as Danny and Wheeler, two salesmen who trash a company truck on an energy drink-fueled bender. Upon their arrest, the court gives them a choice: do hard time or spend 150 service hours with a mentorship program. After one day with the kids, however, jail doesn't look half bad.

Surrounded by annoying do-gooders, Danny struggles with his every neurotic impulse to guide Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) through the trials of becoming a man. Unfortunately, the guy just dumped by his girlfriend (Elizabeth Banks) has only sarcasm to offer a bashful 16-year-old obsessed with medieval role play.

Meanwhile, charming Wheeler tries to trade in an addiction to partying and women to assist a fifth-grader named Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson) redirect his foul-mouthed ways. It would probably help if Ronnie's new mentor wasn't an overgrown adolescent whose idea of quality time includes keggers in Venice Beach.

Once the center's ex-con director (Jane Lynch) gives them an ultimatum, Danny and Wheeler are forced to tailor their brand of immature wisdom to their charges. And if they can just make it through probation without getting thrown in jail, the world's worst role models will prove that, sometimes, it takes a village idiot to raise a child.

This looks stupid, but if has Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks and Jane Lynch in it, so it might be surprising.

really, really funny/entertaining movie while decidedly NOT being an Apatow-flick. And when I say that, it's not a slam on the Apatow Factory. Everything they churn out is pretty damn good, but it's almost like a brand at this point. This is just a really funny movie, with really good performances and the movie has the grace to actually get funnier as it goes on, rather than just playing out the old schmuck/young weird kid joke over and over again.

My wife and I saw it on Saturday and were pleasantly surprised. I liked it better than Step Brothers.

I read something interesting the other day about Seann William Scott. It talked about how terrible he is, but we all love him so much. It is really interesting that is appears to be a terrible actor, but for some reason I think he is one of the funniest guys around.

He is really funny in this movie and balances out Paul Rudd's style of comedy.

I agree though, SWS is funny in just about everything.

Just saw it, by far the funniest movie this year. This movie was obviously made for Paul Rudd (he was one of the writers). Rudd was just fantastic as his sarcastic and apathetic character.

Good movie, but by no means the funniest of the year. Think funniest of the year for me would have to go to Tropic Thunder at this point, FSMarshall right there with it.

Eh, it was ok; good thing it was a matinee. The funniest character was the black kid. That whole Laire medieval reenactment thing got tiresome after a while.

Tropic Thunder? Really? The only part of that I found LOL funny was when Jack Blacks character was going through the DTs while he was tied to the tree and offering sexual favors, the rest was along the lines of just okay.

I laughed more during Drillbit Taylor

Zeno you may need to rewatch it not sure why Jack Black would even be what you mentioned about the movie. He was really a side character at best, RDJ pretty much stole the starring role from Stiller but the entire movie was hilarious not sure what movie you watched.

Well I completely disagree, entertaining but nothing great...not even close to Forgetting Sarah Marshall or Zach & Miri in terms of humor.

I didn't say Jack Black was the only one in the movie I just said that was the only scene in the entire movie I laughed out loud at. As for rewatching it, I doubt it, just not worth it. Stiller was too over the top stupid and Downey Jr was simply OK.

Wow, you must just really have a unique sense of humor. One of the best comedies in years I guess really well made comedies with great acting aren't your thing. RDJ was just OK...you might be the only one I have heard say that. RDJ was above and beyond any acting done in either of the films you listed. This film was great in so many ways I guess I don't understand how someone would not find it funny. I guess the comedy industry now needs to be simple, lame romantic comedy, or just dumb for some people to like it. I like to think people would appreciate a well written, acted, filmed comedy like Tropic Thunder.

I'm not arguing with you...we each have our own tastes and Tropic Thunder isn't mine. I have a feeling you just like arguing and belittling other peoples opinion, what a swell guy you must be.

RDJ was awesome in Iron Man...IMO he didn't even come close in this role.

I am not belittling your opinion just happen to disagree. RDJ was fantastic in Tropic Thunder not sure how anyone who watched and payed attention to just how much he sunk himself into the role couldn't recognize that. No big deal its how TV is now too simple minded comedy is what alot of people prefer, I just don't happen to be one of them. Oh and RDJ was basically played himself in Iron Man, I would say he was much better in Tropic Thunder.

I was a tad disappointed, as I expected to laugh a bit more. But it had it's moments, and I freaking love/adore Paul Rudd so it was great looking at him all movie :D

I am seriously not good with actors names so I was googling them all to see who they were.. I didnt even know Stifflers real name till this thread.. With that said.. Here is a pic you might enjoy Kate.. Its the first one that shows up for Paul Rudd.. Its alarming that I had to type this long ass paragraph just to expalin how I came across this pic.. The ridicule of this board is too much sometimes.. lol

Recently watched it. I can't argue with this. Right now I've got it ranked just below Tropic Thunder, but with a second viewing it could probably move past it. Paul Rudd's comedy style completely clicks with me, I don't think there's anyone out there that I find funnier right now.
