As a replacement for Sharper.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/01/25/fourteen-players-added-to-pro-bowl-rosters/

BTW, it's clear the experiment of moving this game to the week before the Super Bowl is an utter failure.

David Garrard? Seriously?

Yep the pro bowl is a joke this year. They are like down to their 4th QB alternate on the AFC side. So the 7th best QB is in the Pro Bowl. The AFC QB pro bowlers are Shaub, Garrard, and Vince Freaking Young. QB isnt the only position this is happening at either.

Players just dont care about it anymore.

I haven't like the game since I was about 10 anyhow. But, what's the point of this? It needs to be scrapped if it's going to be this lame.

Switching to this format is stupid.

Players actually looked at the venue of Hawaii as a vacation as much as a game. They took their families, some Running backs in the past have taken their Offense Lines.

For players who had Pro-Bowl appearences in their contracts... this will be a boon for them!

I honestly believe they should scrap the game entirely... Why play the game?? Does anyone really care about the game itself??? Of course not.
Being selected as an All-Star should mean something. But the Pro Bowl game only takes away from the ability to ensure that being selected the best at your position carries any weight or meaning...
In MLB, the game is able to be played in a manner that carries meaning and enough passion to keep it all interesting. And of course, the peripheral events (HR Derby for example) add to the fun and excitement.
In the NBA, the game is nothing more than a circus type side show. But the NBA can carry that sort of stygma and still have the selection to the All-Star team mean something.
The NFL Pro Bowl has been hurting for quite some time. There is truly nothing they can do to generate more interest in the game - both from a fan, as well as a player perspective. The game does not lend itself to the sort of fun, excitement and circus flair that MLB and the NBA are able to create. There is truly nothing entertaining whatsoever with the Pro Bowl... Pro football is simply too dangerous and justifiably so, players are not willing to actually play in a way that, while it could create more excitement, could also mean career-ending injury...

Just end the game itself. Name guys to the All-Star team, send them to Hawaii for some sun and fun, and drop the game... it's pointless.

Robert Edwards thought it was great too... ;)

The NFC may have to dip into their next QB as well (I believe it's Romo). I can't see Favre wanting to go play in this game after being molested yesterday and with the nightmare of throwing the NFC Championship to the Saints...

Agree that the Pro Bowl this year is even more of a joke than usual. Before it was a nice gesture to the best players to get a trip to Hawaii. This year it is about saving money and having third or fourth alternates showing up. I suspect a lot more players than usual will blow it off this year.

What is funny is that Rolle might decline it as well becuase of his concussion against the Saints.

Some have language in their contracts that pro bowl incentives do not kick in if you are an alternate/replacement player.

With the way this is heading.. it will soon look like a Nanny State little league.. Remember kids, your all winners and everyone gets a first place trophy.. er Pro Bowl berth.

You would hope they would at least have language stating if are the 8th choice at your position.. sorry bud, no extra $$.

The question is

HOW MANY BONUSES WILL TEAMS HAVE TO PAY? Do the Cards now owe Rolle a Pro Bowl bonus? If so...what a joke.

About the same amount as bonuses the teams dont have to pay to players who decided not to go or are not able to. It all evens out.

I won't watch probably. I liked it when it was a couple of weeks after the bowl and in the land of enchantment. I'm sure plaers family and friends liked it as well. Not to mention the boost for two economys. The Super bowl city and the islands.

Congrats Antrel...I think a well deserved nod in which I think he should have made it over Collins anyways. But well deserved.

this just further cements what a joke the pro bowl is. rolle is not a pro bowler. for him to even be considered is a joke. as someone earlier stated, 3 of our db's in the pro bowl? get real.

although I do see what you are saying about 3 of our db's in the pro bowl, and towards the end of the season it would appear that there should be no way that should happen. But look at the majority of the season, for the most part the secondary was great, and it was only towards the end of the season when guys like Rolle, DCR and Ware started to get injured that the defense played bad. I can't see blaming the whole secondary when 2 of the 4 starters weren't healthy and their guy in nickel and quarter was out. It was mostly Adams, Abdullah, Johnson and McFadden who were getting beat. I do agree that seeing it on paper yes it is a bit bizarre, but when healthy their starting secondary is pretty good, and when healthy, Rolle is one of the top 5 free safeties in the league
