We're not sure why a guy who's been on the lam from sex-related felony charges for more than 20 years should be fretting so about his reputation, but Roman Polanski, winner of this year's Best Director Oscar for "The Pianist," is said to be lining up an all-star cast from some of his best-known films to testify in a libel suit against Vanity Fair.
The magazine wrote a year ago that in 1969 he made a sexual overture to a Swedish beauty at a restaurant when he stopped in New York en route to the funeral of his wife, actress Sharon Tate. Tate was murdered by followers of cultist Charles Manson when she was eight months pregnant.
Polanski, 69, who lives in Paris because of the indictment in a California court, is hoping to testify via video link, the Times of London reported.
Polanski copped to statutory rape after having sex with a 13-year-old at Jack Nicholson's home in 1977. In 1978, he fled to France upon learning the judge wanted to tear up the plea bargain and send him to prison.
On his wish list of witnesses for the trial that begins in November are Mia Farrow, Catherine Deneuve and "Pianist" best actor winner Adrien Brody.
Polanski is suing in London because British libel laws will force the magazine to prove it did not commit libel. But extradition treaties between Britain and the United States will keep Polanski in France.

How dare Vanity Fair say something negative about the child-molester also known as Roman Polanski...
