I was just on the Redskin's forumn where I read that it has been reported by someone in the family that doctors have told the family that Mr. Springs will not wake up from this coma and they need to move on to deciding how long they will be leaving him on life support.

Very sad news. I cannot imagine losing my father, especially under those circumstances. Everyone please keep the Springs family in their prayers.

That's just so sad, he's way too young to be dealing with such a serious
situation.

I'm old enough to have seen Ron Springs play.

This on Wikipedia:

Personal life

Since 1990 Springs has had type 2 Diabetes, which led to him having both his right foot and two toes from the left amputated. In 2004, needing a kidney, he was placed on the national transplant list. Though his son Shawn offered to end his career and donate his kidney, Ron refused.[1] In 2006 former teammate Everson Walls agreed to donate one of his kidneys, and the transplant took place in March.[2] On Tuesday, October 16, 2007 it was reported that Springs slipped into a coma after having an operation performed on an elbow cyst the previous weekend. He currently remains in this state, and his son has left the team to be with Ron during this time. Doctors have recently reported that there is no chance of Springs surviving.[3] His family plans to look into donating his usable organs.

very sad, was ron springs an NFL player?

Cowboys, RB, around the same time as Dorsett.

He had one of the more only the Cards moments in his career he beat us with a halfback option pass because nobody knew he was left handed, so he rolled left and we came flying up and he threw right over the top for a TD.

Also, this on the Sports Network:

Bleak outlook for Springs

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ron Springs, hospitalized in a coma, reportedly has "no hope he will survive."
The Dallas Morning News reports doctors made that statement to the family of Springs, who has been unconscious since soon after he entered Dallas Medical City Hospital last week. The paper reports friends believed the 50-year-old Springs went to the hospital to have a cyst removed from one of his arms.
The Cowboys Web site indicates the cyst was removed from his elbow, and a former teammate said Springs has been on a respirator since the surgery, and no brain activity has been detected.
Springs started suffering from diabetes since the early 1990s and that led to his right foot being amputated. Three years ago he was put on a national transplant list for a kidney, and former teammate Everson Walls agreed to donate one of his kidneys to Springs. The transplant took place this past March.
Springs was drafted by the Cowboys in 1979. He played eight seasons in the NFL, six with the Cowboys and two with Tampa Bay. He is the father of current Washington Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs.

Don't count him out yet. He did attend THE Ohio State University. Diabetes also has another former Buckeye and NFL player in bad shape, Jack Tatum.

this is the type of debacle where nobody who has been there before could literally comment. Its just a sad time.....

however, if you're a religious man such as myself, Mr. Springs will soon be in a better place.

too young

Yup, I have a friend that got ejected from his truck and got sever brain damage. The Doctors told his parents he had zero brain activity and he would never wake up.

They descided not to give up hope, and he woke up, and ended up going home.

The brain is still a mystery to doctors.

Well said. I cannot fathom losing a parent, or seeing one in that state.
