The 2024-25 season has been miserable for the Philadelphia 76ers. The season was supposed to be one filled with championship hopes after a busy offseason, but injuries have decimated any chances of that coming to fruition.

On the flip side, injuries have allowed others to step in and get the necessary reps needed to develop in this league. Guys like Justin Edwards, Ricky Council IV, and others have gotten an opportunity to play on a team that normally wouldn't have the minutes for them if they were healthy.

Edwards, in particular, has taken a big leap in his rookie season. Undrafted out of Kentucky, the Philadelphia native has been terrific and he tied his career-high of 25 points in Friday's loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

"He’s only had some bad games when he hasn’t been 100%," coach Nick Nurse told reporters after the loss. "He had a stretch there where he was trying to play through the ankle, and it affected him. Other than that, he's played really solid all year, but again, just really decisive. He swings out, catch and shoot, transition, catch and shoot, whatever. He vaults up into it."

For a kid so young, and obviously, little experience, he has a high basketball IQ. He understands when to attack and when to take the jumper in the mid-range and that will go a long way in his career. Especially, once he cleans up his mechanics and becomes more consistent with the jumper.

"He gets the close out, attacks it," Nurse continued. "He has a little kind of herky jerky rhythm to know when to stop and pull back and make those or to get all the way by them and use his body to finish at the rim. A super efficient night for him, and just again, just looking like he knows how to play the game."

The Sixers will continue their 6-game road trip on Sunday when they take on the Atlanta Hawks o the fifth game of the trip.
