Per Mel Kiper...

2. Bethel Johnson, WR, Texas A&M (5-11, 200) -- 4.25
second or third-rounder
A fast-rising player who caught the ball extremely well at his individual workout. Johnson also has outstanding kickoff return ability, which coupled with his size and speed make him a player who could move into the second or third round.

Sounds like the kind of guy that jumps to the second round. IMO we won't take a WR until the third. DL and QB are early in the draft.

Bethel Johnson 5-11 201 [4.37]
Kevin Curtis 5-11 186 [4.38]
Tallman Gardner 6-0 205 [4.38]
Doug Gabriel 6-2 213 [4.50]
Tyrone Callico 6-4 223 [4.34]

All have their flaws (The taller guys all appear to be long striders who lack explosive acceleration out of their cuts and struggle running sharp routes. Can this be coached out of them?)

Bethel Johnson is said by the War Room to be an underachiever who seems "kind of lost or bored at times." (Kind of like D-Bo without the proven skill?)

Gardner is the highest rated (could go late in Round One)

Curtis seems to be the most "compleat" WR of the 5.

Callico appears to have the most raw physical talent.

All could be available at #37. Maybe a couple would still be around at #70.

I totally agree that DL is the primary need in the draft, but I can't believe that people are still talking about needing to draft a QB early in the draft. Pay attention, people! We have out QB of the future, and, like it or not, his name is Josh McCown. They said it when we drafted him as the 3rd QB off the board last year, and they said it the day that we signed Blake.

I give you my Kerouac 9's LOCK OF THE DRAFT: We will not draft a QB in the first four rounds. You can take that to the bank. Maybe next year, if McCown looks like the next Gio Carmazzi, but not this year.

One reason I'd cut the guy a little slack is A&M under R. C was one of the more pitiful offenses. Hard to get juiced when you know the guy calling the plays is inept.

The more I think about it.... I agree, no QB this year...........Give Blake & McCown a chance to work without worrying about a high priced prema-donna (????sp) lurking in the background......Defense In the 1st round..... Jeff Faine, Center in the 2nd........maybe a WR.... 3rd..... defense the rest of the wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
