Injury-plagued starter goes back on DL
June 30, 2004 PHOENIX (AP) -- Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Shane Reynolds had arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to repair cartilage in his right knee and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Reynolds, 36, made his Diamondbacks debut Monday after being activated from the 60-day DL. He gave up six runs and six hits and two walks in two innings, throwing only 50 pitches against San Diego.
He had 277 starts for Houston and Atlanta before Arizona signed him as a free agent on Dec. 23.
There was quite a bit going on in there,'' manager Bob Brenly said about Reynolds' knee. ``Had some debris, and possible torn meniscus, and just had some wear and tear on the back of the kneecap.''
Brenly said Andrew Good would take Reynolds' spot in the rotation.
The Diamondbacks also placed utilityman Greg Colbrunn on the 60-day DL to prepare for surgery on his injured right wrist.
Arizona recalled right-handed reliever Greg Aquino from Triple-A Tucson and purchased the contract of outfielder Quinton McCracken from Tucson.
McCracken, an Arizona fan favorite because of his hustle, was traded to Seattle for Colbrunn last winter. The Diamondbacks reacquired him on June 11.
