3 roster moves were made today, and one more should be coming soon.

FB - Green - put on IR, will probably have knee surgery, and most likely get an injury settlement. This kind of stinks, but not that big in the grand scheme. He was a blocking FB who also played special teams, which is different from Kreider who doesnt play special teams. Oh Well.

C - Raiola - Cut

C - Melvin Fowler - Signed. actually really like this move. Sorry Claxton but we finally have a real backup at Center that we can put on the 53 man roster. Someone with some actual starting experience that didnt completely suck at it. Much, much better depth now.

Two cut or IR'ed and only one brought in means there is still one open roster spot so stay tuned.

Anyone have any information on Fowler??? I haven't been able to find anything about him, (not listed on CBS Sportsline League Roster)---I have never heard of him and would be happy to get ANY info on him at all.

Here Catfish,
Melvin Fowler, 6' 3", 295lbs, played at the University of Maryland and was a 3rd round pick by the Browns in 2002. He played 3 yrs with the Bowns, was traded to the Vikings and played one year, and has played the last three years with the Bills. He has played in 87 games total and started 60. His experience should put serious pressure on Claxton if he wants to find a spot in the 53.

I had no idea about the guy but as long as he isnt injury prone and has some experience under his belt, he should be a good back up. He will pressure Claxton and, perhaps, Sendlein

Sando's blog has a Scouts Inc. scouting report on him.

Thanks Carddan --- Looks to be a sound investment. The Bills generally have solid performers on the O-line. Appears to be at least the equal of Sendlein. Looks to be good depth here.

Just checked Sando's blog on Fowler from Scouts Inc. Great report. Has started 60 games and played well. Was Buffalo starter when he sufferred a knee injury. Was eventually beaten out by his backup, who played better than he did. Became a free agent. His agent is also Coach Whiz's agent, thus the knowlege about his availability. Was never injury prone prior to the knee injury at Buffalo. Looks to be pushing Sendlein immediately IMO. Good pick-up from my standpoint.

Love the move, may even be able to push Larry at center. The open roster spot is interesting. I would assume a FB would come in to replace Green, but no announcement yet.....

Urbans blog indicates Whiz said they are gonna bring in some FBs for tryouts and sign one with that slot

Just curious and I realize this is kicking a bee's nest, but why is it when there is a "bad" move we scream about Graves, but when one makes sense to the fans do we congratulate the head coach?

Usually when what many consider a "bad" roster move is made it involves money/contract. Therefore the focus is on Graves and the front office.

Most of the "good" roster moves usually involve what many believe is an upgrade in talent and money is seldom an issue for us. Therefore the focus is on the Head Coach.

Right or wrong that's the nature of the sports business.

It just shows how many people don't understand the TEAM concept. Graves has the final say-so on a lot of these issues, but the coaching/scouting staff make the recommedations. It's obvious that these guys all work well together and compliment each other as the general direction of this team has been up for the past several years. The front office is a TEAM. Someone once told me the only thing that matters is results. From where I stand, the results have looked pretty good, especially compared to the 20 years previous to this time frame.

True for the most part.

I doubt the coaches/scouts have much input in pay and money has been the #1 factor in most of the Cardinals' allegedly "bad" roster moves.

But you are right that things are tremendously better than when the TEAM was simply a guy named Bill.
