31. Cardinals* - San Jose State DE Jarron Gilbert

Gilbert is still a bit of an unknown, but he will work out extremely well and can back it up with production. He posted 22 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks as a senior. The star of the East-West Shrine, Gilbert (6'6/287) is built to play an attacking end position in the 3-4 defense. The Cardinals' hybrid 3-4 allows the ends to penetrate and they'll need a replacement for impending free agent DE Antonio Smith.

Crazy measurements (6-5, 287 pounds, 35 5/8-inch arms, 10 1/4-inch hands) and perfect skill set for what we look for in our 3-4 DE's, but I tend not to like guys who all of a sudden have an awesome year. His Sophmore year and Junior years were mediocre averaging 6 TFL and 5 sacks each season. Both years as a starter. Even this year he was still only third on the team in QB hurries and hits.

He can be had at the end of 2nd round easily right now IMO. Unless he has crazy workouts at the combine I just dont see it.

Yeah, with as much stock as teams put in combine numbers..

He's definitely going to sky rocket. With good reason, too.

I've heard of this guy about half way through the football season but I haven't seen much of him at all. I do know that he should be a Combine All-Star. He has a very nice burst from the links posted. Like joe, I'm not too big on OYWs so I'm going to have to find some more footage of him before I officially make a call.

He is a freak, but this might be one of our deepest positions even if we let Smith leave. I'll pass at #32. There will be a TE/OL/RB/LB there worthy of being drafted.

Usually I'm in the same boat, but I defer to measurables too often at the same time.

This kid's got a bucket's worth of drool in them.

Consider this: The last draft the Cardinals seemed to go with "early peakers" Calais Campbell and Kenny Iwebema, two players who's production wasn't as high their seniors years as their previous ones.

Also, I don't remember much about DRC's college production, does it fit into late riser category? I know his Senior workouts were talked highly of, as well as his combine performance.

Campbell and Iwebema's stats may say they were early peakers but thta must be put into context. Campbell if I remember correctly was asked to gain weight and play some DT for a team deviod of DL talent. He played a different scheme, techinque, position, and body type his senior year. Iwebema just lost his DL coach and he to had to play a different scheme and technique.

As for DRC he was voted all confrence first team 3 years in a row. Once he got a chance to start his Sophmore year he dominated for 3 years straight.

I didn't know that about Campbell, cool info!

For the most part, Iowa's defensive hasn't changed too much in Norm Parker's 10 years. Quarters backside with a 4 man rush (obviously that's not their only play, but I think of it as a "base" for them). I think that losing a coach can hurt, but I think injuries have had more of a factor in his leveling off then Ron Aiken's departure. Not that Aiken's leaving didn't have significance, it's just lower on the tree. I've been wrong before though.

*Edit
Awesome DRC info!
