Warren Miller scored a school-record six goals in the first quarter Tuesday, sparking the Johnstown boys lacrosse team in a 16-4 victory against visiting Licking Valley (1-4).

Miller finished with nine goals, one shy of the school record for a match.

Will Taylor added five goals and Logan Brown and A.J. Hollis a goal and an assist apiece for the Johnnies (4-2). Grady Balog won 13 face offs and fielded six ground balls, and Ben Smith made five saves.

Newark falls to Gahanna​


Drayson Peterson and Max Frost recorded two goals and an assist apiece for Newark in a 13-5 loss to visiting Gahanna to begin Ohio Capital Conference play.

Oheneba Asenso also scored, and Doug Simpson and Colton Loudermilk each had an assist for the Wildcats (4-3, 0-1). Landon Sifford made eight saves.

Newark sweeps​


Newark only dropped four games in a 5-0 victory at Groveport to open OCC-Buckeye Division play.

Singles winners were Evan Devries, 6-0, 6-0, Layton Shaner, 6-1, 6-0, and Viktor Glecker, 6-0, 6-1, for the Wildcats (4-0, 1-0). Doubles winners were Bradley Pastorius and Grayson Boyer, 6-1, 6-1, and Isaac Devries and Collin McCracken, 6-0, 6-0.

Heights sweeps​


Jaden Peach served seven aces and distributed 19 assists for Licking Heights in a sweep of visiting Northland, 25-16, 25-11, 25-8.

Cleveland Brown Jr. added 11 kills, 12 digs and six aces, Carter Humbert nine kills, Alieu Bojang five aces and John Tawiah four assists for the Hornets.

SOFTBALL​

Heights blanks NC​


Lydia Rauch struck out four in a three-hit six-inning shutout, pitching Licking Heights to a 10-0 victory against visiting Newark Catholic in Licking County League play.

Ali West totaled two hits, three runs and an RBI for the Hornets (3-3, 1-1). Kelsey Carter and Serenity Gutridge added two hits and two RBIs apiece, combining for three runs, and Lily Meidl notched two hits, a run and an RBI.

Veronica Bailey tripled and singled for the Green Wave (2-4, 0-2). Marissa Richards added a single.

Watkins wins on road​


Alli Langwasser piled up four hits, including a triple and a double, scored three runs and drove in one, fueling Watkins Memorial in a 14-9 victory at Gahanna.

Kylie Trouten added two hits and three runs, Gracie Gerhardt two hits and four RBIs and Bryna Davis a double and two runs for the Warriors (5-1). Jacy Severance recorded two hits and an RBI and struck out seven.

Heath wins at Zanesville​


Kylie Green struck out 10 in a five-inning one-hit shutout for Heath in a 14-0 victory at Zanesville (0-5, 0-2) in LCL play.

Savannah Lawson homered and knocked in two runs for the Bulldogs (5-4, 2-0). Sydney Cottrell added two hits, three runs and an RBI, Kyndall Spicer two hits and three runs and Lexi Purington a hit and four RBIs.

Liberty falls on road​


Megan Evenson had two hits for Liberty Christian (1-5) in a 23-0 loss at Berne Union.

BASEBALL​

Watkins drops home game​


Canon Mercer’s three-run home run for visiting Zanesville (2-3, 1-0) on Monday helped send Watkins Memorial to a 7-4 defeat in the LCL-Buckeye opener.

Dylan Gray and Trent Johnson each doubled for the Warriors (1-3, 0-1). Gray scored a run and drove in one, and Johnson scored a run. Logan Grezlik struck out two in 2 2/3 innings of perfect relief.
