That makes two excellent defensive CF's that have moved into huge outfields in our division. They both have bats as well.

Not too concerned because we have Chris Young who is better than both. I am more worried about our rotation. Rumor has it that the Giants are willing to trade Tim Linecum straight up for Alex Rios. I wonder if they would trade him straight up for Carlos Gonzalez who I feel is on par with Rios, but Rowand's signing might have changed their stance.

The Rowand signing is 100% due to the fact that they are not willing to trade Cain or Lincecum. SF tried to get Rios for Noah and the Jays countered with Rios for Lincecum.

How do you figure that Carlos Gonzalez is on the same page with Alex Rios??? I don't mean to bag on you but you routinely come up with ridiculous trade scenarios.

And why you wouldn't want to trade prospects for Haren, who is arguably the best young pitcher in baseball, is beyond me. We have no clue if CGon, Anderson, and Bonafacio will pan out but we know Haren is a legit #1 starter on most MLB teams. He's locked up for 3 years and we will have money to resign him with before he's a free agent. You don't win WS's with all homegrown talent, you just don't. You have to trade pieces of what you think are your future to get to the top. See the Red Sox who traded top prospects for Beckett and Lowell (the key components of last years WS). See the Detroit Tigers who just traded top prospects for Cabrera and Willis (are favorites with BOS to win it all next year because of that trade).

What the Dbacks have offered so far is probably not enough and I have no problems offering more. Benson, Clement, Prior, and all the garbage that you want to sign as a fill in starter are completely worthless. Randy Johnson, who we're relying on next season, might not pitch again (and his chances of injury are HIGH). Benson/Clement/Prior are 3 of the most injury riddled pitchers in baseball and have the potential to single handedly RUIN our season.

Point is that Haren gives us a 1-2 punch that will rival the top of anyones rotation. It is as close to Johnson/Schilling as we may ever see and giving up Cgon/Anderson/Bonofacio/and another prospect is WELL WORTH IT. Even with those guys gone, we will still have a strong farm system. If our young bats come around and we have Webb/Haren at the top of our rotation, we could make a run at 100 wins next year and be serious threats to get to the World Series.

Whether they are overproced signings or not, the fact is that this drastically makes our division even tougher. Not to mention that teams will have a better understanding now how to pitch to our batters and such. But, I also look for growth for this team.

I'm not sure if making a lot of trades is the answer for us. I know we are looking for another starting pitcher. I just hope we do the right thing. We have our future on our team. It is very exciting!

As much as I like Rowand, he is spectacular with the acrobatics but not exactly an all around excellent CF. More suited for LF. Giants have all that Bonds money to spend.

Well thanks for your honesty. But it's comforting to know that there are three guys out there that share my reasoning and their names are Josh Byrnes, Brian Cashman, & Theo Epstein. Haren is going to cost more than Gonzalez, Anderson, Bonafacio and someone else. The A's asking price is so high that not only us are balking but I don't see the Yankees or Red Sox jumping to give up their prospects for him or Santana either. Haren is good, I'll give you that. If he only costs us Gonzalez, Anderson, Bonafacio and a A baller then great but I think the A's want alot more.

Thank you. And he's proving it in the Majors. Carlos has struggled through the minors. Just because he has the "Five Tool" tag doesn't mean it will translate to major league success.

Gonzalez is just 21 years old. He went through the minors basically as a teenager. He strikes out alot and started slow in AAA but he went on a tear at the end of the year. Guaranteed whomever we trade him to, he is brought up by mid season, the only reason we have to trade him is because we stuck ourselves w/ Byrnes for the next 3 years.

Rios hit .297, 24 HR's, 85 RBI's, 17 SB's (all career highs) and has been in the league 4 yrs. His 1st year he hit 1 HR, 28 RBI's, & 15 SB's while hitting .286 in 111 games, Gonzalez would easily match his 1st year numbers and could possibly match his totals last year (maybe not his average but would be close).
