Rowen cleared up HBs in draft for me.

I think Rowen pretty much told me what the Cardinals might already know. The OL will be better but we better have a back that can break a tackle because the line still has a lot to be desired. Brown out of Auburn is sitting up there in the ratings but I started thinking to myself...do we want to spend our 8th pick on the backup HB from Auburn? The object of the game is to win and wouldn't you think Auburn would have put him in if he was better than Williams? Some will argue that Williams just fit their system better when in college so he started over Brown. What? Draft people are saying Brown is the most versatile of the backs, then why wouldn't he fit any system. Lets see, at the 8th pick we might have Benson. DRAFT HIM. Hmmm, Earl Campbell, Priest Holmes, Ricky Williams (before his brain went numb) and now Benson from Texas probably will be there for the taking. Four years and he produced. I was one of the first to say way back he looked like a bust, but there is no proof to support that. Cadillac Williams, will be a good back but will he be able to break tackles into the fourth quarter with our line?

J.J. Arrington in the Second if we take Rolle (yes Rolle, playing at Miami probably gives him the nod over Pac Man) doesn't make sense when Rowen says power back. Green is probably more looking at a player like Shelton or Gore in case we go CB in the first. Does anyone agree with me or am I putting too much into what Rowen had to say.

Shipp and Hambrick are the closest thing we have to a power back at the moment and I thought Scobey played well as our third down back. If we need a power back, I think it is someone like Benson, Shelton, Gore. Yeah, I saw the video someone put up on Brown but it didn't make me jump up and down...especially all the times the video switched to the next cut before Brown was getting tackle. Broke a tackle but seem seldom to break more than one in that was from college game footage.

Brown is nothing special, and I think we'll see that once he enters the league. He has only straight forward speed, and any team that takes him will find a back that isn't as good as he was hyped to be. He wasn't a starter over Cadillac Williams, and he shouldn't be drafted over him either. The video of his highlights wasn't anything to write home about, to me he looked like a solid, but unspectacular back with little mobility and not that much dominating power either.

Caddy and Benson though, are going to be very good players in the pro level. Which will be better depends on what system they enter, in my opinion. I'd love to have either on our team, because Rowen has had experience with Priest Holmes in his past. Holmes had enough mobility to be dynamic past the line of scrimmage, and so does Cadillac. But Holmes is also adept at finding the hole in the middle of the line and gaining tough yards for a consistent gain, like Cedric.

Ultimately I'd like to have Henry here, since I think he's a great back, and clears us to take a corner like Antrell Rolle or Carlos Rogers with the number 8. He's shown good vision, speed, power, and he's worth the risk. Avoid Pac Man Jones (as cool as his name is), and Ronnie Brown, and we can't go wrong in the first to fill a position of need.

Didn't bash, just stated the obvious

Williams started over him and the idea that everyone has a backup over the starter and a four year producer like Benson just seems insane. Brown might be good but looking over the proof in the games played (Williams and Benson with more experience and proof), Brown has the biggest chance of being a bust of all three. Now if I was bashing him, I would say the guy can't play at all and shouldn't be drafted on the first day. Combine performance doesn't mean squat. What the guy did on a football field with pads against defenders speaks volumes.

Benson seems the most NFL ready of the 3 studs.

Yeah, scouts and people paid to evaluate talent are just pumping him up on combined performance.

Have you ever seen him play? Do you know what his stats are?

The "backup" argument is very weak. There are differences in the NFL and College game, and RB has the tangibles to succeed at the NFL level moreso than college. It wasn't like the guy never sniffed the field, either. Go look up his stats.

I'm actually more concerned with Williams than Brown. If one of the three busts, I'd put my chips with Caddy. I hope none of them do, however.

Honestly I wish someone would explain to me what that means that the NFL and college are different? I keep hearing that as an explanation for why Cadillac was the starter in college but Brown is going to be better in the NFL.

I could understand if people said Brown was a late bloomer, or Cadillac was a small guy with great speed who was too small for the NFL, things like that.

But Brown was actually a VERY heralded recruit, out of Georgia, he was rated ahead of McGahee on many recruiting experts lists and was being recruited by Miami when McGahee signed there. Brown considered going there too but decided to go closer to home and went to Auburn. A year later Cadillac was a big time recruit and expected to backup the redshirt freshman Brown, but beat him out and started as a true freshman. Brown got to play the most his soph year when Cadillac was hurt.

I don't disagree he's bigger and faster but I don't for the life of my understand why that explains Tuberville having him backup Cadillac most of his career?

My guess is if cadillac stays healthy he'll have the better career, I think he's a more natural runner, I think he sees holes and makes cuts than Brown can't see or make. If people say Brown is more durable, which he has been in college, I would agree, but better, don't see that.

That take just seems like common sense. I wouldn't touch Brown with a ten foot poll.

Benson and D. Johnson? Eh. Benson strikes me as kind of plodding. Definitely not electrifying.

D Johnson, however, is a player. One thing about him, in four straight years of getting his butt kicked in October in the cotton bowl, he never quit. He kept played hard when some of the other shorthorns gave up.

Give me D Johnson or one of the CBs. One of those guys will be the BPA when #8 rolls around.

I think I'd be happy with any of the 3, even throw Arrington in there too. I'm just stoked that they have a few to choose from!!!! We improve no matter who they pick I think.

I said, several weeks ago, bascially the same thing Russ said about Brown. When it comes time to pull the trigger, it's going to be very hard for a GM in the top ten to pick Brown over Williams and then justify the pick. All three of the RBs have warts, and I think that only one will be picked in the top ten.

I'd love to go defense with #8 too. That's why I hoep for Henry. Not so much for what he'd do for our offense. But, a trade for Henry allows us to get one more big time playmaker for our D which can happen only with the #8 pick. If we have a playoff type season next year, it will be the defense that carries us IMO.

Bigger, yes, Faster, they are almost identical, and thats with Williams learning to run with 10+ lbs more weight since his playing weight in College.

Both of their official electronic timed 40's were in the low 4.4's.

But Brown had the better Shuttle time 4.14 compared to Williams 4.17, that isnt even noticable.

Williams had the better 3 cone drill 6.95 better then Browns 7.12 which is noticable.

Plus Brown would have seen less of the field if Caddy wasnt the Kickoff return mand and the punt return man. Caddy doing the retun duties gave Brown more chances to hit the field.

Plus I find players that are once the 3rd best prospect at their postions all of a sudden jump to number 1 after a workout, I just find it highly suspect, and nothing more then the media hype machine pushed by a players agent which is their job.

Not saying Brown will be bad, becuase It think he will be good beucase I believe what my eyes tell me but I am just not believing the hype that is surrounding him right now.

Priest Holmes wasn't the starter at Texas his SR year remember. Played behind Ricky Williams. Doesn't mean Brown will be any good but you always have to look at a backup if the guy in front of him is a super talent.

Kind of like being a shortstop in the Baltimore Orioles organization playing behind Cal Ripken.

That's all true but Holmes was an undrafted FA out of Texas not possibly the 2nd pick in the draft if you believe what people are saying about Brown. And Williams was the unanimous best RB in college at that time and pushing the NCAA career mark.

Brown got to play quite a bit throughout his career but until his senior year he was never really on "equal" footing with Cadillac, there was one point where he was the #3 RB behind Cadillac and Brandon Jacobs.

All I'm saying is all these people saying Brown will be a superstar because of his size and speed are overlooking that a guy who saw him practice 5 days a week for FIVE years of college(Brown had a redshirt year) still felt that Cadillac was the better player in college so saying "scouts who get paid to do this for a living" love Brown carries no more weight than the guy who got paid to coach him the last 5 years of his life.

He may be a great player, he's got the build and the physical talent, but when I saw the guy in college I saw a straight ahead runner with no wiggle and limited "feel" for running. If the hole is there look out below he'll explode, if the hole isn't there, he'll try to run over whoever is there. He's a good receiver and a solid all around player but the next time I see him slip a tackle, cutback and hit a seam that was barely there will be the first, and that's the standard run by Cadillac.

To back this up last year against OU he had 16 tackles (7solo 9 asst.) 1 Forced Fumble and an interception. OU scored 12 points, without DJ they probably would have scored 50.

Notes: Over the last 20 years only one Texas player selected in the first round has been a bust. Stan Thomas OT in 1991.

Miami Hurricanes have had as many players selected in the first round (20) since 2000 as Texas (11) and OU (9) have had combined since 1985.

Texas A&M has almost twice as many players in the NFL as does UT.
